Broken Boxster roof.

I've just broken the roof on my Boxster (987.1). I went to put it down, but the centre catch recaught and then there was a bang. The windows and rear cover still do their stuff, but the roof itself no longer moves. Can anyone point me to where I should start looking to see what has happened?
I expect you have broken one of the struts which are designed to fail under 'too much tension' rather than anything super serious with the motor.
As it turned out a bottle of Dr Pepper of all things put in the back of mine by my nephew achieved the same result when it became wedged in the system somehow on a trip to Tignes a few years back. In my case the strut broke, not the drink bottle !!

Yep, my mate's just did this. There are two small plastic white threaded knuckle joints (one per side) which are designed to break rather than something more expensive! A couple of quid and some scraped knuckles to fix it. Check the alignment carefully, that's probably what's caused it to go in the first place.
You are best to undo the silver torx bolt. The one that adjusts the length. Put some tape on the push rod where the ball joint ends . Unscrew the old joint and screw new one down to the tape. When you come to refitting the push rod there should be a mark from the bolt . line up and tighten. This way you will get the correct length and it is easier than taking the whole rod off.
Don't open and close your hood to much. The damaged push rod can rip the drip trap. and they are hard to replace.

That sounds expensive. A local specialist (Newcastle) supplied and fitted two for me a couple of weeks back, £105 all in. Full arms, too.VladD said:

Whole arms. Parts were around £70 (from Porsche), and they charged me half an hours labour, £35. They sent me a text when the parts were in, told me to give them a little notice, but more or less just turn up, and they fitted them whilst I was waiting / having a chat. It only took half an hour, too. D and G, if it's not breaking any rules. Two ex-Porsche guys who've set up a stones throw from Porsche Newcastle.
