TdF Stage 3.. Viewing

Myself and a few friends plan on watching stage 3 of the Tour as they pass through Epping Forest July 7th. The time estimated for the riders to pass is approx 14:45...

Not having done this before, is anyone else planning similar? Any ideas on what time we should arrive/road closures etc??

We will be driving there.

Myself and the missus will be watching from somewhere around Epping. The M-I-L lives in Harlow so we'll drive there and ride the last 5 miles to Epping.

Still not decided actually where. I'm sure it'll be rammed in the town centre especially with a sprint there. Probably go just south of the town.

I'm planning to try and find somewhere to see them in (or riding out from) Central London. Are we expecting the entire route to be full of spectators or am I likely to find opportunities to get away from the crowds?

If all else fails I may just walk over to Tower Bridge and watch from there, or brave the crowds at the Olympic Park.

We are going to watch it in Chelmsford, the original plan was to watch at Great Waltham but seeing as there is some stuff going on at a park in the city (that still feels strange) we will park at the OH's grandparents and possibly cycle over to watch them turn on to Roxwell road.

At least that way I can watch the rest and keep up with what's going on on the big TV.

The info given to locals is confidently predicting a big turnout on Epping High Street, where "Mark Cavendish is expected to sprint for glory". Well, given that it's an intermediate sprint 25km from the finish, that won't happen.

In Epping I'd recommend putting yourself on the road that leads up the hill from North Weald - that'll slow the riders down a touch although I expect they'll be at full gas shutting down the break anyway.

I'm looking at Chelmsford,get the train in and watch the tour festival in the park on big screens,plenty of pubs everyones a winner

Having been to watch the tour on a number of occasions, I'd recommend trying to find somewhere on a hill or with some tight turns to slow them down a bit. On the flat they go past in a massive blur.
