Shimano or Look pedals?

I want some new shoes, which means a switch to 3 bolt cleats and therefore new pedals, but I'm not sure the relative merits of each option. I'm drawn to the cheapest Look ones for lightness and price but they seem a bit plastic so maybe Shimano are better?

Any ideas?

I am happy with my LOOK pedals. Keo2 max and the Blade models.
The bearings last well and are easily serviced should you need to.

Never tried Look, but my Shimano Ultegra are going strong after 2 years.

Personal preference really. Look cleats will wear out quicker if you are walking on them.

I have a set of Keo blades on my good bike and a set of normal keos on my commuter. I much prefer the positive in/out feel of the blades when clipping in.

I have these too and am happy. Mine were on offer so the same price as the cheaper model, but seemed much better quality. Only been cycling since January (after a 20-year break) and these are the only clipless I've ever used. I asked in several local bike shops, and they all recommended and used Looks over Shimano.

Used to ride Look had delta first then keo, but found that the cleats were wearing out really quickly,especially on the newer ones with the wear indicators. I ride time trials and do tend to walk around a bit in my shoes swapped to Shimano and they have lasted much longer and seem to feel as if there is a better power transfer.

Currently using some keo classics on my winter bike and keo Max carbon 2s on my best bike.

I prefer the Max 2s, they seem to clip in with less motion and clip out more cleanly.

Shimano for me, didn't help that Look changed the cleat design on me. The Shimano pedals have all lasted longer too.

I've been looking at Shimano pedals to replace my 'WellGo' Look Delta 'copies'.

The current pedals wear through the cleats too quickly, and replacements aren't always easy to find. I really fancy the Carbon Ultegra pedals, but the basic 105s will do the job just as well, I reckon. Weight savings of a few grams on my pedals are the least of my worries

After seeing the opinions above, though, I'm going to take a look at Look's Keo range of pedals too, before I make my choice.

If you've got the cash to spend I cannot recommend Speedplays highly enough. Upgraded to them last year and they've been brilliant.

Another vote for look keo pedals.
