Advice on Iceland please

I want to go for a cheap break in Iceland (I know Iceland isn't cheap) anyone been?

How did you go about it?

Friends went, cost them £1200 or so for 3 days(?) stayed in a 5 star hotel cause it didnt add relativly much to the cost.

Had an ace time tho.

they went wirh Bridge travel (who I'e used a few times tooo and are fine)

I've been twice - once enroute to Greenland , and once for a 3 month geological research trip.

The scenery is stunning ( that includes the women )- so the local hot tubs and swimming pools are wellworth exploring .

To get the most out of the place you should really go for a couple of weeks and travel / do some hiking etc.


A short break in Reyjavik would be fun but quite expensive - beer is over £5 a pint , reasonalby nice restaurant meal with a glass or 2 of wine £60-70 each.

So .... cheapest option if you only want a short break would be a "Go"( Easyjet ? ) flight from Stansted ( for £100 ish ), local bus into Reyk. from Keflavik airport( under £10 , no need to book ) , stay at a hostel ( less than £20 / night) ( quite a few good ones in central Reykjavik - are on the internet ) - leaving enough £££ for the Beer, food ,and "sightseeing"

edited to add : you can do a day trip by bus to "Geysir" from Reyk. - impressive hot geysirs and mega- waterfalls etc.

I went with a mate to Reykjavik a couple of years ago ... stumbled across a very nice lap dancing bar (got talking to a dancer there; she was from Essex though)



Serious answer is that Iceland is shaping up to be an economic powerhouse; article in Times Business last week about Iceland ...

Sell expensive beer, it seems.

My cousin has been. He reckoned it was a bit lacking in life, since people stayed in to drink at home and then made straight for the clubs.
