Hi
we are going to the beautyful island of Angelsey next week and then want to drive back through Wales to the South (poss another night there round Swansea or similar) and hopefully go along the roads the magazines rave about through wales (and give the C 63 some beans...)
Where to go - which roads to take? nice B&B in the south area (the Hotel in Angelsey is booked...)for stopover
Thanks

can't really help with places to stay unfortunately but here are some good roads to look up.

A4069 - Black Mountain Pass Rd in the Brecon Beacons

Loads of good roads around Snowdonia - look out for the B4391 from Bala and of course the 'Evo Triangle' is a Petrolhead's must do. smile

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago http://www.kingsheadllandovery.co.uk/ There are probably more plush places but its in a good location for nice roads, serves good food, clean rooms and not overly expensive. Plus they have a secure carpark at the back.

Its about an hour north of swansea on the edge of the Brecon Beacons at the start of the A4069.

Be careful on Anglesey, and North Wales in general. The GoSafe vans are out very often.

There's some very scenic parts along the A5 from Bangor - Betws Y Coed - Llangollen. I'm from Anglesey and used this route last time I went back to visit my folks as the A55 was closed.

Was there last weekend.

Triangle imo isn't as good as cracked up to be, and the east side has been gritted along a strech.

A4069 is fantastic, and as for the B4391, it's the best of the lot. Did it in both directions, it's that good.

I was in south to mid wales from Monday to Wednesday and there is a fair bit of surface dressing going on, mainly on B roads like the B4520 south to Brecon and B4358 to Beulah.

Elan Valley was stunning and very quiet, as was the B4518 to Llanidoes. On the later it is worth taking the right turn just before Llyn Clywedog, which takes you to this stunning view!

Have fun smile

A really nice place to stay pretty much next to the Evo Triangle: http://www.llwynonnguesthouse.co.uk/

Quality of the rooms is excellent. Breakfast is great and the owner is really nice. Lots of parking space too.

I agree the Evo Triangle is not as good as some of the other roads already mentioned in other posts but still worth doing as a part of your route.

If your coming down from north to south, once you have driven around Snowdonia, Bala etc you can plot your route to the Black Mountain Pass. Even allowing the satnav to set the fastest route takes you through some fab roads. I did this with two others a couple of months back and the roads were great on route.

Oh no it wasn't. The B4518 doesn't have white line border markings. It's on the road from the B4518 to Machynlleth: here.
Continue beyond the left hand bend and you'll find yourself in the same place as in the link posted by Allyc85!

There is a small road out of Macynlleth that meets the 4518. Over the top of the mountains with, clear run and it is great fun. Comes down through Dylife.

Edit. Oops, that the road mentioned above methinks..

I know where you mean, just couldn't quite remember exactly where the shot was at the time. Happy to be corrected.
