Basic 997.2 3.6?
Discussion
Hey guys, been out if Porsche for a while and one has popped up for sale on my doorstep....
It's a 2010 gen2 3.6, very basic, 18" wheels, pretty much nothing in the way of extras at all.
It is however manual, black on black, beautiful condition, 17k miles, wearing matching pilot sports all round and the guy is looking less than £40k.
The lack of spec doesn't bother me at all, it's the driving I love. But will it be a nightmare come resale time? I tend to go 6 months between changes so this would be a factor.

997 GT3's seem to be the "in thing" at the moment - there appear to be very few for sale and when they pop up the prices are far higher than you are quoting. If you look on the Porsche GB "used car locator" there is only one 997.2 GT3 and it is priced at about £90k. Even 997.1 GT3's seem to be in the £60k range. I would bite his hand off!

Is there a market for a back to basics 911 with a manual box?
Absolutly. Just look at the classifieds of the Gen1. An S really is worth little extra money over a standard Carrera. Back in the day I well remember testers stating that the standard car was the better real world drive. It's the one I would have.

i am a bit of a fan of the basic 911 and imho a non pasm gen2 would be a great daily or a weekend toy and a car i would purchase if i did not have the spyder not a fan of pasm on a porsche.i would not worry about wheel size as i am sure it rides fine on 19s and wont be to harsh,my spyder has 19s and sports suspension and it feels like a sports car should feel like but on 18s will feel sublime!extras what extras most you wont miss aslong as it has xenons, phone module and sound pack(which i think are all standard) it will be fine anything else is a bonus you can always add pse, chrono and short shift at a later date if so desired.
the gen2 997(345hp) is not that far off the power of a gen1 3.8s(355hp)and has the more robust engine which just loves to rev.
i think you could haggle the price to mid/upper £30s though
go for it!
prices of gen2 cars seem pretty robust and being 4 years old most of the depreciation is gone

Got the same car ( but 59 plate) as you are considering ..very similar spec but mine has lowered chassis . Had it over a year & 10k miles and Opc still selling at just £2k under my buying price . Take off £5k for their profit and don't consider the depreciation drastic. Great drivers car .had a recent hooning with mates ( gen 2 gt3 RS & 430 scud) and only left trailing on decent straights, braking and handling exceptional .The car does NOT lack B road performance in any way and is a sharp driver. I'm not selling but wouldn't anticipate huge depreciation ( ie over £7kp.a.) as gen 2's so much better than original 997's in every way. Go try the car ,and as a driver , you won't be disappointed .......depreciation costs..... it's your choice....
