Due to water ingress into the passenger door (struggling to find targa roof seals!), the window is not currently working properly. Doesn't go fully up when locking & when manually putting it up its reeeeeeaaaalllyyyy sllloooooooooooowwwww. Drivers side isn't very quick either to be honest. Not a major problem, just annoying.

So first question is, will window mechs/motors from a newer car fit straight in to an early mk1 Tuscan? My mate has a T350 his windows work much, much faster than mine!

Secondly, i never have a near-side window washer as the heat pumping out from under the bonnet keeps melting my hoses! Now I realise the manifolds are on that side but surely that can't be normal?! It's even melted the hose attached to the wiper! What's that all about??

On the windows your problem is a £20 part, normally the encoder. You can try to dry it out, unplugging it etc but for £20 it is easier to swap one out. The slow motion could be a lazy motor (likely if it is getting water in) or it is tight on the seals. A little silicone spray can help and also checking the seals are in the right place as they tend to wander downwards.

The seals were for sale at Racetech direct on offer a while ago but the usual suspects should have some Racing Green, Power or Str8six.

Hope that helps.

One of my windows was suuuuuper slow - when I took off the door card the felt in the window runner was twisted - when str8 six replaced the felts it's now happy as larry

You need to thread the washer tube through the spring of the wiper arm, otherwise it hangs too close to the engine and melts. Used to happen to me all the time until I worked that out.

Agree with all above.

Take door card off. Give all the multipin connectors a spray with contact cleaner/lube.

Spray the worm drive on the motor with some silicone spray - also use some on the window/glass guides.

The guide inserts can be bought from Woolies trim - think it's the 12mm wide type.

The targa seal can probably also be bought from Woolies too - study profile carefully and you'll probably get a match.

Washer pipe - route through wiper arm spring as suggested - keep amount of slack below scuttle panel to minimum

Would silicon hoses be better to resist the heat? also is removing the door cars easy? I have a rattle in the drivers side (apologies for hijacking)

Thanks for the advice all, I'll whip the cards off & have a look what's going on & give it all a good clean up/spray.

The washer hose was run through the middle of the spring, but melted still so ran it outside instead and melted again. I'll look for some heat resistant type & see what comes up.

Regards the targa seals, I have the seal itself but am struggling with the channel. Power had none, Racing Green had one (black alloy channel, which I think is meant to sit upside down between the roof and the trim along the edge?) but I can't get it to fit in properly! I'll try a few of the others to see if they can come up with anything.

Thanks

Ryan

There's 3 allen screws at the bottom of the door pocket. They're a bit of a pain to reach but once undone the card drops out.

I use silicon on mine, along with storm washer jets. It's also more flexible so doesn't need as much looped round the wiper.

I thought your car was early like mine, with the 3 piece roof? If so it uses boot seal on the targa, like this.

Early cars had a main roof panel moulding with separate mouldings for the side pieces above the windows glued to the main panel. Later cars used a one piece moulding.

When did this change? The 2001 Y plate I had briefly had totally different seals to the 2002 02 I currently have, the later looking far superior in design.

But the one piece roof still has the side pieces? Or are you saying it's smooth all over?

It's the same shape just all made from one moulding instead of being separate sections. I think a few people have retro fitted the one piece to early cars.

I see, thank you. I wasn't aware of that. I suppose there must be a benefit in the new design, although not sure what!

Well the side pieces don't regularly fall off and need glueing back on for one. smile
