I don't suppose it has gone unnoticed by PHers but did anyone see the news yesterday about the MPs' Pension scheme. They have voted to increase their pension benefits by I think 20% most of which will be contributions from the tax payer.
What is it with this lot?

If my memory serves mr right, they awarded themselves a 20% payrise immediately after Labour won the last election.

Do they not see the problems that many pension funds are having at the moment with the stock market so unstable, or are they so thick skinned they just dont give a damn?

Its hardly suprising is it. Lets have a vote to decide if we should take taxpayers cash and put it in our pensions funds. Oh would you look at that...

was disapointed by this - yet again they prove they have no idea about the real world

they voted 14-1 in the committee - to decrease there final salary scheme (which very few in commercial world can now obtain thanks to changes to tax & regulations) from 50 years to 40 years - effectively a 20% increase.

very poor show - time for an independant pay body i think.

There's no such thing as an independant body any more. All fat cats have directorships in so many other things there's always "a conflict of interests" [read as "an opportunity for self-gain"].

I wish I could vote for my own pay rises. I would be earning a pretty damn good wage by now. However, must say that I find it increasingly strange to see our illustrious elected MPs enjoying a lifestyle that us mere mortals can only dream of. Mandleson and his £1M home for example. Now correct me if I am totally wrong here, but surely someone on £50k - £70k cant afford that, or am I missing something...

And yes I know that they have "other interests". But that just sniffs of ulteriour motives and a conflict of interests. And they now vote for a 20% increase in pensions.... nice, maybe I should give up IT and move into politics - seems that the pay, conditions and workload are quite acceptable...

Morons.

Oh this makes me soooo angry, especially as my contributions are on hold having been stupid enough to be in business for myself when the IT industry went bang.

Complete and utter w@nkers, the lot of them. Ar$e.
