I need a replacement "thingy"! No idea what to call it???

Evening all,

I've broken something, and need to replace it, but I've got no idea what to actually stick into Google to get some suitable options, so I'm hoping you lot might have some (sensible!) ideas?

The thingy in question (pictured below) is a plastic bracket thing which attached a trigger unit to the handlebars on my bike. As you can see, I've over-tightened the bolts and snapped it.

I've tried googling for "plastic bracket", but this just gives millions of irrelevant results. Anyone got any thoughts on a more specific term to search for?

It's about 20mm across, and the bolts that go through the holes take a 3mm hex key.

It's a called a saddle clamp isn't it? Although as a bike has something else called a 'saddle' google is still not your friend

Hang your head in shame, get out to the shed and make something with your hands.

A strip of aluminium with holes in the right places, bent correctly and painted in matt black would be a good way to get some respect back.

Was thinking the same, I'd be looking for some metal or plastic tubing with a similar radius to cut and hammer/bend into shape, then drill some holes for the bolts.

Otherwise try and find out the manufacturers of the brakes/gears and see if they sell any parts, or if the local LBS have any spare bits lying around. Just don't ask at my LBS as he is a miserable .

EDIT - whoops this isn't in the cycling section so to explain, LBS is your Local Bike Shop, the place that should be the mecca for all local bike enthusiasts and friendly advice, when you're lucky a nice coffee too.

In reality you get an embittered stressed out owner selling things for 5x RRP to try and claw back some margin on distress purchases as everyone sensible gets it off the web, and only pops in to try out stuff before ordering it from Chain Reaction.

No, he would need to make a mould, could be a bit complicated. Also I am not sure if a bracket made of Araldite would be strong or if it would just break as soon as you tightened up the bolts.

I'd buy a suitably sized pipe clamp and use half of it.

Obviously measure the diameter of the handlebars / distance between the holes before ordering;

A gravity dropper seatpost. You can move it up or down by 4" with the trigger. Highly useful for downhill sections.

JAYB... I did consider Araldite or Superglue, but the edges no longer marry up due to the stress on it when breaking.

For everyone else, I seem to have bugger all spare aluminium kicking around!

Contact the manufacturer and tell them the clamp has broken, sure they will send you a spare.

Or pretty sure it will be exactly the same as the clamp/bracket on cheap cycle bells, just buy one of those.

I've sent an email. They're in the States though, with no local distributor as far as I can tell. Their customer service the one time I needed it in the past was outstanding though. I just thought I'd see if PH could beat them to it!
