Wonder if someone can give me a sanity check on this one please?

On my girlfriends 09 Alfa Mito we've had a few Battery issues, usually I can suss these things - but this one doesn't make sense to me so wondered if I could get some advice on how to proceed...

Car covers about 30 miles a week, and over the last month or so has had a low battery warning light, acompanied by the power steering going heavy - after a minute or so driving this all clears and its been fine. A couple long runs and the battery has tested at just over 75% charge.

Last week on the way back from a 70 mile round trip the car cut out with all the warning lights on the dash and had to coast to the kerb, lights and windows worked but car wouldn't turn over to restart. Pushed it back the last few streets to my house and tested the battery which showed it was flat - thought it may be a failed battery, but charged it back up and used it for a week with no issues.

Last night the low battery light came back on after a short trip, put the battery tester on to test the alternator/battery and as I turned it over the warning light went off and the battery charge showed 75% and all okay??

Now usually I would just chuck a new battery in due to failure - but confused about it cutting out completely whilst driving and then charging up fine, if the battery was dead wouldn't it just fail?

anyone else had similar symptoms?

wink

Just buy a new battery. 5 years is about all they last.
