Sevens 'n' Nine-elevens meet - Herts - 4th August
Discussion
OK, date for the diary for those who fancy a bit of a get together to 'talk pork' and grab a swift half and a ploughman's... Sunday 4th August at The Goat, Hertford Heath, Herts.
Also at the pub will be some Caterham owners from the blatchat forum, as I'm meeting an ex-964RS owner called Mark Piper there. He has a Caterham Superlight R, so if anyone wants to know what 190 bhp feels like in 450 kgs, he's your man.
The date: Sunday 4th August
The venue: The Goat, Hertford Heath, Herts
The time: I am getting there at 11am to meet Mark Piper. The Caterham crew turn up at 12 midday. So anytime around then really.
Dress code: No goggles or flying helmets please. Otherwise we won't be able to laugh at the seveners
Itinerary: Normal mix of chat and soft-ish beverages, plus maybe going out for a bit of a drive. All good clean, sensible fun (as long as UV leaves the call girls at home ).
Map and directions: Copy and paste this link without spaces in your URL bar.

There is also a nice pic of the pub, in case you are wondering what it looks like. Nothing out of the ordinary, but at least it doesn't have a wacky sodding warehouse in the garden. Again, copy and paste the link.

So, hope to see some of you there. Fingers crossed for the weather, and at long last the RS will get an airing...
Cheers

Hi Dave
It is different for the 964 - a typical sports exhaust simply consists of a single 'J pipe' silencer bypass, so the total cost is no more than 90-200 quid, depending on whether you go for a Type 911 system or a Ruf system (for example). It also saves the weight of the silencer, which is about 10kg.
A 993 system is more complicated, and will be nearer 600-700 pounds. I'm sure the turbos may complicate matters as well. Speak to ajaym (friendly PHer mainly on the Ferrari forum), as he rang me today with a price for the Ruf kit for mine (but I have already ordered one from Autofarm). He will be able to get you a Ruf one for your car at a good price, I'm sure.
Cheers
Domster
PS Glad you can make the meet. I should have the sports pipe fitted by then.

Domster, Thanks for the info and see you on the 4th. I have had some on-going talks with Ajay and he has suggested the following:
We can offer you a complete set of Tubi Style silencers (rear right and rear left, including end tips) for £xxxx inc. VAT,
exc. delivery. I have contacted the factory and we should be able to supply Sport test pipes which replace the cats for the 993 turbo aswell.
The silencer for the 993 turbo weighs approx. 8.5 kg, which is significantly less than the standard system. The end tip dimensions are 2 x Ø185 x 35 mm.

Domster,
Just a quick hello to let you know that Carlton is fit & healthy and providing much fun in sunny West Sussex. I note your comments in your profile about it's handling but thankfully I've also got an Escort Cossie so I can go fast in the twisty bits as well !
I assume you've got your 964RS by now. How is it ?
Best regards, Meridian (aka Damon)

Hey Damon!
Fantastic to have you on here - almost forgot I sold it through PistonHeads!
Glad the car is behaving itself. I spent enough time and energy on the beast sorting it out, so I'm glad it is paying me back in good behaviour for you It is good fun on boost, is it not? Should scare the West Sussex population given its head.
The 'Scort Cossies are good fun on the corners. I can remember being impressed with a roundabout a salesman demonstrated to me - the words 'sh!t' and 'blanket' sprung to mind.
My brother never bought my Rover in the end, as it happens, so gave that a new clutch and new brakes and it is on fine form. I picked up the RS about three weeks ago, and it is an amazing car on the twisty bits. Almost Caterham-esque. Quite nippy too, but a bit quiet so I'm getting a straight through sports exhaust fitted. Need to hear that flat six properly...
All the best
