Anyone after a cheap funky road bike?

Mango have released an 18 speed simple road bike. Looks smashing and would make a decent winter thrashed.

I really love the look of their single speed bikes, promised myself one towards the end of the year. I'd get one sooner but I think my popularity may drop to a dangerously low level at home

Looks OK, but being a groupset snob, I'm not sure about the 'Microshift' kit on that ( )

Aside from that, a very nice looking traditional frame with a consistent style throughout. A very accessible price too, compared with a lot of what's available these days. Perhaps not for me just at the moment, though.

If it is as tough as the steel frame suggests looks a good buy

Having said that it is a 53/39 chainset with the lowest cog on the back being 23

Whilst thats fine on the flat (and I'd love it) its a bloody tough gear for newbies and biggish climbs, especially when you consider the bike weighs nearly 30 pounds!

Also I'm not sure if you could easily upgrade the "microshift" kit to accommodate a bigger cassette easily

Also, if I was going to run such narrow gears in a flattish area I would go for a SS, so it kinda becomes self defeating...

Microshift is compatible with Shimano so should be easy to change the rear cassette to something lower geared

Microshift kit is solid and dependable, it does what you want from your gearing; it shifts accurately time after time. Where it falls behind the comparable for weight shimano groups is the lever action is fairly stiff which can be an issue on long and/or cold days.
Badge snobbery will prevent most people from using it.

What you won't necessarily get with this bike is resale value, a 2012/2013 entry level Trek/Specialized/Giant would cost similar money and be easier to move on.

Love the colours, but the weight in combination with the microshift kit is a deal breaker for me. I can see one of the singlespeeds tempting me, but then I remember I live on the mendips
