Play in rear cassette - confusing

I've just sent my bike to get a service after breaking it in over the last 500 miles and I have play in my rear cassette. Its a Shimano RS11 wheelset with SRAM Force 10 Speed Rear cassette. With the rear nut done up tight the mech is floating around a bit. All the spacers are correctly in between the rings. The wheelset is compatable and the rings did not wobble about when originally built. The nut is flush against the hub so is tightening up far enough.There was never any spacer to sit behind the cassette but as far as I know theres not supposed to be one..

Anyone got any idea what the issue could be?

do you mean the rear derailer is moving, or there is play in the cassette? just your post is slightly confuddeling! :-)

On the face of it, it sounds as if it is missing a spacer behind the cassette (assuming its an 11 speed wheel set), or the cassette hasn't been tightened enough..
If its just been serviced I'd pop it back to the shop that did the work : should be a 2 min job for them to sus out what the issue is, and then rectify if needed!

hmm. I dont remember ever having a spacer supplied with the wheels. How annoying!

10 speed cassettes on an 11 speed hub, needs 2 spacers. One that comes with the cassette and also another than should have come with the wheels. Use both, as I learnt myself!

I've bought a 1.85mm rear spacer and a 1.0mm one that I think goes on the front? Hopefully will all arrive for the weekend! Nothing like a last minute panic before an event.

Batfink, both spacers go behind the cassette , none at the front.

It'll be play in the freewheel unit itself, all my Shimano hubs have it, and as these bearings never have any real loads on them it's not something I worry about.
