Today i realised i should have ordered by french toll pass thingy as i am travelling alone.

lets hope it gets here in time - or I'm going to need some sort of coin passing stick for the booths.

Are the toll points a 'bucket' or 'slot' type?

Both, last trip to Bordeaux involved slot on most. Last toll I went through didn't like my ticket so I had to press the help button to which I said. "Bonjour, la billet machine kaput" he obviously didn't understand but we got away with paying bugger all....

From memory first tolls out of Calais have a right hand side ticket dispenser so you can atleast start the journey in style...

Or do what I did before I had the auto thingy - undo seat belt, sit on the transmission tunnel (be careful of handbrake and gear knob yikes ) and reach across. Only problem with that approach is if it's raining and the roof is on...

I recall travelling alone to Le Mans (it was my turn to convey all the camping gear) and I took a kids fishing net. It amused the people at the tolls to see a net being offered out of the window with the toll money.

It's not our fault the Froggies chose to site their troll booths on the wrong side of the road.

How to pay at the troll booth: ( GTS Method )

Stop, apply handbrake, select neutral on your boite de vitesses, switch off ignition, and undo your seatbelt, marvelling at how nicely it retracts since fitting Max's seatbelt mod smilethumbup Remove keys from ignition ( can't be too careful, there may be undesirables lurking ).

Calmly, slowly & deliberately extract yourself from your car, yawn & stretch, them slowly amble round the front of the car to reach the booth.
By now there will be some angry tooting of French horns.
Turn in their general direction, smile nicely and shrug your shoulders with your palms facing forwards just like the French do when you want serving.

Take out your wallet & fumble for your card ( any card will do, because you will have to try at least three before any of them work ).
Insert card h punch in your pin when prompted ( in French ).
Order your receipt ( in French ), take it from the machine when it emerges. Remove card & replace in wallet. This is important, as you may need it again later to pay for some beer.
Amble back to the driver's side of your car, whistling a cheerful tune about someone who has no toilet paper, pausing to have a good look around and under the car to check for anything untoward. Marvel at how quickly a huge queue of seething French peeps has built up behind you, and watch as they try to barge across into another queue, remonstrating with one another as they do so.
Climb back in, ensuring you are quite comfortable.
Take out your notepad & pen, record the mileage reading, the toll location & fee ( it's printed on the receipt stub ).
Replace notebook & pen into the glovebox.
Reach back and take hold of the seatbelt, which should smoothly & easily pull out now, thanks Max wink and fasten the buckle. Close door.
Realise that your ignition keys in your RH hip pocket are now impossible to get at whilst you are strapped in your car.
Release belt ( seatbelt, not trouser belt ), open door and extract yourself once more from the car.
This is a good time to stage a perfect deep bow to show our patient French friends how gentlemanly us English chaps are.
Remove keys from pocket, climb back in, strap in as before, close door, start engine & engage premiere gear.
Apply throttle until roughly 4500 rpm is obtained, and drop the clutch.
A smoking number 11 approximately 34 yards long ( not sure what that is in metres. Don't really care smile ) should be enough to get you away from the awful cauldron of seething resentment & fury that now envelops the general vicinity of the troll booth.

Works for me.
So much more fun than a smart windscreen sticker thingy.
I never liked stickers anyway wink

ETA Is that ok Joe?
Le payback - every little helps....... wink
