We have had new carpet in our house, so I thought I would use the old carpet in my garage. I was just wondering about any fire risk after putting the car away after a run when it is hot. Anybody else put carpet on there garage floors.

Not very practical ....... Wet car, oil leaks, paint it or tile it for a more robust finish

If you are the type who spends time fiddling under the car the I would say yes. I have had carpet on my garage floor for years. Yes, the neighbours think you are a bit strange vacuuming the carpet with the garage door open, but trust me, on a cold winter's day you will be glad it is there.

I had a new lynor fitted in my kitchen a while back and had some left over, so I fitted it in my garage, just under the car only and on the sides, I have fitted the carpet, where I can walk without shoes if I need to. If there is any water/oil leaks,I can easily see it and I can wipe it of clean and,I would know what colour and liquid be.

Better to carpet it with a rectangle cut out in the middle for the car to sit it. No fire risk and it won't be dripping wet with oil after a year

well I've had carpet in my garage for a couple of years now, no bursting into flames and no oil slick (24 year old TVR, perhaps the newer ones leak more smile )

Size of my garage, if I cut a hole out where the car sits there'd be bugger all carpet left !

You can get hard wearing foam squares for the garage floor. They are a bit like those kneel mats for gardening. Only a few quid for a pack off ebay. Pretty waterproof and wipe clean and very comfy especially in the winter.
