Did the stewards investigate the wong incident at Monaco?
Discussion
My personal opinion is that Rosberg's trip up the escape road looked deliberate, especially since he was going so slowly at the end that he could have easily taken the corner. But I do accept that it was not 100% clear cut.
But what baffles me is that he apparently then reversed back down the escape road towards the track, an action which was certainly both dangerous and deliberate and one for which a penalty is surely mandatory?
The fact that he didn't receive a penalty makes me wonder whether the stewards looked at it or were even aware of this part of the incident.
I didn't see the reversing incident on the BBC coverage and so far I can't find any footage online, Can anybody post a link please?

With regards to the incident itself, I'm of the view that it was a genuine mistake but one upon which he manipulated to his advantage.
I think this reversing issue was discussed on Sky. Remarkably, there is no regulation that forbids the reversing of a car onto the track, only if the action endangers other cars and as there were no cars approaching at the time, no foul!
Reverse gears have only recently been mandatory on safety grounds so I guess that outlawing their use would be somewhat counter-productive.

What do you mean by recently? Functioning reverse gears have been mandatory for many, many years, in most forms of racing. They were made mandatory in F1 in the sixties.I think this reversing issue was discussed on Sky. You're right - 1968 they became mandatory. I thought that the existence of a reverse gear was until recently optional and many teams chose not to use them to save weight. BTW...I have had a quick look at the tech regs and the only place where it is not permitted for the reverse gear to be used is in the pit lane.

Going off on a slight tangent but I wonder if the electric motors can be used to reverse the car - if so you could ditch a gear from the gearbox and save some weight surely?BTW...I have had a quick look at the tech regs and the only place where it is not permitted for the reverse gear to be used is in the pit lane.
It's all a conspiracy so that OUR darling gorgeous little sweet lovely Lewis can't win the championship, but gets beaten by that b
d German!
I blame Schumacher. Some how. Not sure how, but its bound to be his fault cos he's GERMAN. It's a Conspiracy. I bet that b
d Ecclestone turns out to be German.

It would be pretty unlikely that wasn't legal and missed by everyone but its a good idea- not sure how the e-motors can move the vehicle in the opposite direction to the IC engine though, aren't they both the same side of the gearbox, at the least it would require another clutch- which is probably heavier than a reverse gear?scubadude said:

Yes, I hadn't considered that - the electric motors assist the ICE rather than run in parallel don't they. So a LaFerrari configuration rather than a Porsche 918/Macca P1 setup which would allow electric-only drive.I wondered why the phone hadn't just exploded with excited F1 engineers thanking me for my brainwave....
