Cycling in Tenerife.

I am going to be based in Costa Adeje,has anyone got some cyclist friendly routes around the area or a site with maps and route planners?

Planned my own route from sea level, up through Orotava and up the volcano. Proper awesome

Was in Puerto Del Carmen in February, the wind was brutal and extremely dangerous, headwind out and crosswinds coming back gusting to 55mph. Had a few scary moments when I was descending at 48mph and the wind caught the bike

Rode up Tiede last year - it's a beast!

It's not particularly steep, but it just goes on and on...
The descent probably ranks as one of my best bits of riding ever - enjoy it!


I remember getting to the top of Tiede and looking at the elevation data on my Garmin:
Ascent: ~2300m
Descent: 10m

I'm not a roadie but I was on a MTB guided ride last year, and we joined a road section coming down towards costa adeje and it was fantastic! hairpin after hairpin with a beautiful view

Have a poke around on Strava. We went there last year in preference to Spain and are heading out again in a few weeks. Teide is as tough as you make it but it does go on a bit! There is a at least one small town on the main part of it which takes out a fair few km. That has a 28% bit in the middle and finishes on cobbles...just in case it's all too easy.

Overall it's a very good place to ride. The roads are smooth and the traffic way more friendly than here (not hard). A good ride is up and over Teide then over La Escalona into Los Cristanos.

The South approach is a good one and you can easily get to the start point by bike from Adeje.

Great opportunity to do I think the biggest continual climb in Europe about 7700ft

OK,day one over and did the Vilaflor loop only 45 miles but 5,500ft of almost continuous climbing in 30 degree temp!
Made the Bealach feel like a speed bump! Lol.
Tomorrow going to head along coast to San Juan-Guai de Isora-Adeje as a easy day before doing the Tiede summit on Sunday!
There is absolutely nothing like this back home and well worth giving it a go!

Off for a few drinks and some seafood!
