I used to live on the IOW, and now go over regularly for the sailing

Does anybody know of any free parking in Southampton? The closer to Town Quay the better, it looks from the council website that they've locked it down pretty tight

I don't really need to take the car or bike over on the ferry as we sail from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, and frankly the prices are unreal, 80 for a weekend return with the car and not much less for the bike!!

Or does anybody have a driveway they'd rent a space on from Friday evening to Sunday evening for a reasonable price every couple of weeks?!! Would much rather pay a Pistonheader than the council biggrin

Well, I go to the IOW for day trips mostly, and last time I parked in The Triangle car park, which was 10.10 for 12 hours, (pay by mobile phone only). I walked the 200 yards to the Red Funnel / Red Jet only to find the Town Quay parking is 9 for 12 hours! Was I cheated or what?! mad

But you're right, you would need to pay for the Sunday as well, in advance, and at that rate with the passenger fare as well (22), you may as well take the car on the ferry with the passengers free.

No, the nearest place I know from the north is up at the other end of Bevois valley, let's keep the actual street name a secret, else it will get full up and then the Council will charge there as well. It's still a couple of miles from the ferry, but bus 3 takes you from there to near the station, and then the hoppa goes to the ferry - but they charge 1 for that now!!

However, from the east you can park in the residential streets on the other side of the Itchen Bridge, provided (a) it's not a football weekend and (2) it's not raining, because you'll get soaked walking across that bridge!

Just did a bit of research, the cheapest Wightlink car ferry (a thirty minute crossing) that I could take is 104.50 for a weekend return, suddenly renting a space and taking the (still extortionate) red jet makes a lot of financial sense

How the fk do they justify this, I can fly to Croatia and back for that much and that's a 2.5hr flight!!

Thanks for the tips folks, over the Ichen is a bit far away really, especially if it's raining, and if there's a weekend of sailing planned it most likely will be biggrin The maths stacks up for not taking the car

Cheapest Wightlink ferry = 104.50, want to travel at normal times (1600 over, 1800 return)? That'll be 132.50 eek

Cheapest Red Funnel ferry = 83.50, but it takes an hour and drops me the wrong side of the Medina

Parking via parkatmyhouse.com and taking the Red Jet = 35 (15 for off street parking and 20 for an off peak period return). Only the thinnest coating of lube required, and it drops me closer to my Dad's place in Cowes than any of the vehicle ferries, even walking compared to driving...

Think that's the choice...

Parkonmydrive.co.uk (or .com). My sister lives about a 20 minute walk from the ferry and rents a space on her drive for people going across to the island among other things. I cant remember the exact amount, but i think she rents it for about 5 a weekend or something!

There's plenty of unlimited street parking further out, e.g. north of Howard Road. Depends if and how far you're happy to walk/get the bus.

You can park in Captains Place, on the brick section past the double yellows. If you park there during working hours while people are at work you're more likely to find a space.

Warning though, might get a stty note from the residents buts there's nothing they can do.

Where that C70 is is a great stop or around the corner in front of the 206

We have a few spaces minutes from Town Quay that are currently vacant if you want to use one in the short term (at your own risk). Pm me and I will send you the building address.
