Here’s the story:

I have been going round and round in circles trying to decide what car to buy and I think I need a little educated and opinionated advice...

The criteria is:

1. Maximum budget = £11k (less would be preferred to help me upgrade my R6 to a Ducati).

2. The car will be used everyday for a motorway commute (60 miles per day) and at weekends and in all weather conditions (leaking cars need not apply!).

3. Insurance is not really a major issue (age = 26 + full protected no claims).

4. Fuel is an issue, I’m not expecting Nissan Micra figures, but I don’t want to re-mortgage the house every week just to fill it up !

5. Practicality of the car is only restricted by the all weather / commute requirements as I do not have to consider families or pets !

I have obviously looked at a wide range of choices, but I don’t want to pre-empt anyone’s ideas so I won’t list them.

So that’s it – any suggestions and opinions will be gratefully received.

Cheers

Paul

I'm about to buy a track prepared BMW E30 M3 Evolution Sport for 12K, but if you don't fancy one of those, how about......
1) Lancia Integrale, though poor-ish economy.
2) Porsche 968 (possibly LHD for 11K) or good 944.
3) E36 M3, will have quite a few miles or LHD for that money though. Mind you, have a look on Auto-trader's website and you will be amazed what you can get for the money. Lovely 6 cylinder for commuting.
4) You would get quite a lot of Impreza for 11K, but awful economy, and common.
5) If you are brave, 12-13K gets you a LHD Porsche 964.
Buy something interesting. Go on.
Good luck.
