Genesis, anybody know anythink about them?

I was in the local bike shop yesterday and saw some of their bikes, the Croix de Fer looked really good, I've been thinking about something to commute to work on that is a bit more road orientated than my full sus cannondale but won't snap in half on the potholed roads I use.
Is the cycle scheme still running? If so are the benefits the same ie no vat/NI/paye??

i've got a genesis vapour that i have used to ride to work and i can confirm they are excellent bikes. i've used it every day for the past nearly 3 years now. i'm selling it just because i fancy a change but if you're interested i'm looking for £300 for it.

Just got hold of a second hand Genesis Flyer (SS). Seems ace in my opinion - everything works as it should despite the previous owner giving it zero maintenance in 4 years.

A mate rides a 953 Volare, he rates it highly, although a much different beast to a CdF. It certainly looks like a quality item. From what I've seen of other models in the range, they look great & seem good value. An interesting & slightly left field choice but nowt wrong with that.

Really good bikes and good value for money. I have 2 myself, an Equilibrium 20 and a Madison Track. I'm good friends with the product manager of Genesis, his enthusiasm and massive technical knowledge has ensured the brand has really grown over the last couple of years. He's regularly in Taiwan overseeing production and they review and revise the materials, geometry, and spec every year.

My son has just bought a Genesis Volare Team frame (Reynolds 953 Stainless steel) with a carbon Envy fork. He built it up on Tuesday using Dura Ace 9000 crank (52/38 to comply with BC junior race gearing rules), Ultegra other drive train bits, levers and brakes, Deda Zero 100 Bar and stem and 3T 400mm seat post, Specialised Romin carbon rail saddle and a Chris King headset, wheels are either Mavic Ksyrium SL's or 50mm carbon tubular rims. This is his training bike as he has something a little lighter for racing. It is a really well made frame.

I have a Genesis Altitude 3.0 hardtail mountainbike with a Reynolds steel frame and Shimano XT components.The steel frame gives a really controlled supple ride and overall, the bike is really excellent! A great buy!

Rob, what frame size is it?

I have a Genesis Volant as a commuter bike and really like it. The Croix is lovely, and will probably be the next bike I buy.

Genesis is the house brand of Madison.

Madison is the biggest parts and accessory distributor in the UK and also Shimano agent.

They have Genesis, Ridgeback and Saracen in their stable and design the bikes in the UK and get them made in the Far East

They're 'reet proper good. I have an Equilibrium 20 (in shexy red), and bar racing, it's seen a bit of everything: battered across Flanders a couple of times, TT'd, summer bike, winder bike, commuter hack etc, etc, and it wearing the resultant war-wounds with pride. Wouldn't - couldn't, in fact - replace it. Not the raciest of things, nor the lightest or the most aero, but I don't care.

They're due to preview their 2015 soon, and IIRC it's the first time the "old" Genesis designer (responsible for the Equilibrium, CDF, Volare etc, all of which are bloody fab) hasn't had an input.

An Equilibrium 20 is pretty much exactly what I want for my next bike, but they are unfortunately not sold in this country so getting my hands on one isn't going to be cheap or easy

I've got a Croix de Fer and have probably done 1000 miles on it in the last 4 months. I really like it. Great as a commuter and you can hustle it along at a decent pace. Probably THE do it all bike.

I've got an Equilibrium - custom build with full Ultegra:



Comfortable enough to ride all day, corners beautifully, nice and light - everything I want I've done about 3000km on it since getting it last summer.
