BMW Steering wheel stolen

My BMW 325m was broken into on Sunday night (Henlow) they stole the steering wheel which was fully loaded with paddles etc and my lock and wheel nuts from the boot. There was no broken glass or sign of entry apart from where they've been caught on CCTV and it looks like they've had some wire down the inside of the window, does this work? Also the alarm didn't go off, can anyone explains this? A few months a go they attempted to steal my wheels and a neighbour had his brand new BMW left on flower pots, again no alarm went off! I've also heard from the police a BMW in Meppershall was also targeted on Sunday, steering wheel, centre console and wing mirrors. Any thoughts would be welcome
