Nagging feeling that it's early signs of gearbox main shaft bearing noise. Brave it or no?

So soon after the new clutch installed? Perhaps a co-incidence....

Are you using 75w90 oil?

I don't think there is any inherent weakness with the later type 9 box. How many miles has yours done now?

One of the original noises is still there. It's the minor rattle at neutral with clutch out

Main bearing noise it very obvious, a low pitched grumble in all gears that goes away (iirc) when clutch pedal is pushed in and gearbox drive chain is disconnected from flywheel. It just gets louder with speed.

If you have had car recovered and they used a lift of the front wheels so the car is sloped backwards while being towed with rear wheels in motion this would do it as the oil coverage of the front bearing relies on car being reasonably level. Short periods I.e. Hills are ok but any prolonged motion of the gearbox on a slope starves the bearings of oil.

I made the mistake in my rebuild as I should have removed prop shaft before allowing rolling chassis to be towed on A frame for welding. They only towed it 2 miles.

Should also have mentioned my spigot bearing was replaced (twice now as I also did it when I overhauled the engine) and whilst the original one made no noise both the new ones made/make a slight rumbling noise when running and clutch pedal not depressed. But this is no where near the noise of the main bearings

OK - Brakes awesome now having cleaned, lubed callipers, roughed up pads and bled the front. Chuffed

Gearbox. Defo a noise and a leak at tail shaft. Will be over a pit on Monday to ascertain the plan. Its either overfilled and a noisy spigot bearing or noisy bearings and a u/s seal.

We will see.

Steering column still squeaks when hot. ? always has. silly thing?
