Yes - most cars can do 100mph+ these days.

No - I don't need you about a foot from my rear bumper in the fast lane of the M25, just because I'm unwilling to do 120. Tosser!

Without wanting to start an argument, was it not possible to return to lane 2 or even lane 1,

Nope - I was overtaking in pretty busy conditions last night, but wasn't prepared to floor it. This tailgating seems to happen all the time with golfs and BMs, but then I'm probably imagining it. We can't have car racism can we?

It's just that last night going home from Rockingham, north bound on the M1 the most progress could be made in Lane 1, with occasional trips into Lane 2 to overtake the Caravans, lost count of the number of numpties who offered me a coffee though :nescafecoffeebeanshake: 70mph in Lane 1, or 60mph nose to tail in Lane 3

unfortunately I don't think you can say it's just golf drivers,
you could add astra vans, all white vans, most motor cycles, BMW's, some audi's, Vectras, Astras etc etc etc.

BTW I drive a golf. This morning , on the m25, I was doing just over 70 as i approached a variable speed limit area set at 60, Pr*t on motor bike 2 feet from my bumper, white van man pacing me on inside so no where to go. I didn't fancy getting a ticket by speeding through the cameras, but I was obviously holding him up.

Ah, it seems that you have discovered the governments secret plan. In an effort to get people out of BMWs, they brought in the new emmissions based company car policy. Thus forcing the average BMW driver into Golf TDI's. Yes, BMW do make very good diesels, but are much more expensive than the Golf equivalents...

So they are all driving Golfs now.... And I bet that it is because the government is still peed off about BMW / Rover thing....

Well thats my conspiracy theory anyway.

Maybe he was just ensuring that his Golf really does have as much torque as a Porsche Boxster

don't worry about, they generally are for more alert than you in your car.. and can easily go past the side if you brake. And at worst, you get a few scratches while they fall off? relax. It's not a problem, and it is not going to go away. However, DO get worried if a 38 ton truck is 2ft away !!

I have noticed this about golfs. I've also noticed they're the chariots of choice for sloaney kids' 21st birthday presents from mummy and daddy. I'm not in any way an inverted snob, but having spent years telling their parents what to do, quite a high percentage of these charlies (and charlottes) seem to think they've inherited the road to boot.

Quite refreshing not to be slagging BM's off for a change, although i noticed a couple of you just couldn't hold back

I'm not sure about that. I think its perfectly acceptable to treat any BMW driver as an arrogant tosspot and cut him up/tailgate him befor he has chance to do it to you

Sometimes yes. But lets not forget that there are some like minded BMW drivers on PH and I have seen / known some very good BMW drivers. However, the tossers that are out there tend to skew the opinion slightly. And EVERYONE knows a story like "... and then there was this git in a BMW ..."

Cheers,
