Me and a couple of friends are thinking about flying out to France, buying a good pre 1975 2CV and driving back up to Glasgow?
Good idea or sheer madness?
Anything I need to worry about?
How do I insure a French registered car?
Thanks!
Great Idea, my bro took his 2CV, his wife and their daughter on a French road trip. My Niece is thirteen and tall, my bro is 6, 4"Good idea or sheer madness?

Buying a pup and getting stranded, or finding it'll cost you a fortune to get it through an MOT - the French CT is, umm, less stringent when it comes to structural rot...Phunk said:

On the chassis number or French plates - but, since you can't legally use it in the UK on French plates anyway, the insurer will insist on you getting it UK registered fairly sharpish once it's back. MOT, NOVA VAT certificate from HMRC, and a bit of paperwork and a £55(IIRC) first reg fee from Swansea, and job's a good 'un.LeBonCoin.com is where you want to start looking.
Alternatively, Gary is not only a top bloke, but will find you what you're after and do the importing for you. http://www.2cvimports.co.uk/ Much less fun, though.
