Replacement Cables - what brand?

Hi Folks

My defy needs new cables as the gears are randomly changing and not very smooth shifting/indexing - its still on the OE.
Plus after the other Sundays Dorset bike ride which was more like cyclocross in places i thought i'd treat the bike.
Its had new cassette and chain so i know its not that causing the problems.

So any recommendations on brand / spec for brake & gear cables (inner and outer) oh its Sora levers.

I personally just go for boggo shimano and replace them every year - not convince buy the longlife / anti mud jobbies, although i'll happily be proved otherwise!

Jagwire - top quality kit, pretty too

Don't get cables that are teflon coated, they are fine to start with but the coating comes off and leaves black teflon inside the outer cables causing sticky changing.

I fittted a set of Transfil Flying Snake Kevlar brake cables last week to one of my bikes and they are super smooth. not the cheapest of cables but excellent quality. If not the Transfil a set of standard Shimano stainless steel cables would be my next choice




I also fitted the Transfil Flying Snake gear cables with Kevlar linings, I now have wonderfully crisp shifting and will be fitting them to other bikes as and when replacements are required

I moved to Jagwore from Shimano and have fitted anything else. Last for ages and run smoothly for ever without any cleaning, adjusting etc

I was a big fan of the gore's but they are no longer in production,expensive but work spot on for ages. Otherwise jagwire is ok.

As per Rolls, I just use Shimano Dura Ace / XTR's Use for a year or so and change. Never had any luck with other types to be honest.

I just use shimano SP41 on my MTB, lasts at least a year with no maintenance then replace. Full length outers makes a huge difference though.

cheers for the feedback guys, the snakes get good write ups but too much for me to spend right now as i can replace all the cables with jagwires for only a little more than one set of snakes.
So off to wiggle or ebay for me

Think if you want full outer and inner, the jagwire kits can be found for just over £20. Can't remember where I got my last full kit from though! If I do I'll post it.
