Hi All

I need to replace the flexible hoses on my S3c (a '92), and will probably take the chance to upgrade to braided ones. Looking on eBay etc, it seems there are 5 lines in a kit, but reading on this forum people have been saying there should be 6? (and this is before you get to the issue of what threads you are using)..

Can anyone clear up the confusion for me please?

Thanks

Definately 6 on drum brake cars and 8 if you have rear discs, lot of Ebay listings are wrong!

You could do a lot worse than speak to Stevsons

Some people have done away with the fiddly little pipe by the front upright and fitted a longer hose from chassis straight through to the caliper.

Cheers for that, I'll have a word.

I take it the break down is 4 at the front (chassis to wishbone, wishbone to caliper)x2 and then 2 at the rear from chassis to trailing arm?

I don't know how many flexi hoses were fitted to the car at the factory - I bow to Philpot's better knowledge.

When I did the front brake upgrade I already had one long braided hose fitted to the callipers that ran from the front of the engine bay to the calliper.

I'm due to do the rear disc conversion (ok the garage is doing it) and hav eon order from ML four hoses. On each side there is a flexi pipe between the chassis and the trailing arm. This connects to a solid pipe that runs along the trailing arm to the drum. A fixed pipe clearly won't do for a calliper so I have ordered a second flexi hose to connect the solid pipe tothe calliper.

As I measured, the flexi pipe between the chassis and the trailing arm was 220mm long centre of fixing to centre of fixing. I've made an ali clip up to fix to the trailing arm and oredered a 300mm long flexi for the calliper end.

I doubt any of the above helps.

My fronts have been converted to a single long braided hose passing through the wishbone bracket as Philpot's photo. Sorry to hi-jack, but any idea on a grommet for this, as every MOT the man tuts loudly at the current sticky tape solution?

Mine are supported in a pipe clamp now (like this) but before changing to this way they went through the bracket on the hub carrier that would normally hold one end of the rigid pipe as it sounds like yours do?
Rather than a grommet I used a short off cut of silicone hose, slit, threaded over the flex pipe then secured with a couple of small cable ties.

Thanks for all the feedback. I may end up looking to do a single pipe front setup then.

bought some of philpot's suggested p clips for the single hose through the upright hole solution. Mike, did you make a little bracket to turn through 90 degrees?

No, maybe not too clear on the photo but I just sort of "twisted" a normal P clip.

They'll need to know if metric or imperial threads wink

I got mine done at a local hydraulic pipe place in Essex, best to take the old ones in so you get the right ends put on. Some of mine have metric one end and imperial on the other, all depends if you've had new brake cylinders on the back or not .
