Is this beyond repair?

I absolutely would NOT ride on it like that.
As 47p2 has said, it's not beyond help. Use a traditional patch kit, if you have one, and slap the patch on the inside of the tyre wall centred over the hole. Use plenty of talc/chalk to prevent the tube sticking to the tyre when you refit it.
This is something I've heard about with Ultremos, but never experienced myself. Something serious has gone on there, with the hole obviously going through the threads of the carcass, so check for sharps inside the tyre, and think about fitting a fresh tube after you repair that hole, as the 'bubble' of tube that's sticking out may well have been stretched/stressed by the experience, and weakened in that spot.
Good luck with the 'long ride' as well. Lucky you caught that before it caught you out, eh!

It says "Region: Highlands". I presume that means the Highlands of Scotland, and not the Surrey Hills. Which is a shame, as if you were close by I was going to offer you a spare from my garage 'stock' to let you get out tomorrow. Not sure the offer is of much help to you, what with it being an 1100 mile round trip from Fort Augustus to Farnborough. Sorry.

It's scrap. Bin it, and make a point of never, EVER buying the over-rated, overly-fragile s
te that is Schwalbe again. They're utter toss with a history of such failures, and more.
EDIT: And for emergency repairs to such failures, tyre patches are hopeless. Old business card, toothpaste tube (slightly harder to find if out and about, obviously!) or a proper tyre boot will fare much, much better. Not brilliantly, but enough to see you home and/or to the bike shop.

Decided to change plans as we are doing the Bealach na Ba, highest, longest road climb in Britain (even tho I have only done 9 rides ever)
Going to get new tyre and head out later and stay the night and get two days cycling in.
It wasn't that great an offer really, as it would only have been another Schwalbe Ultremo R1 (complete with garish orange stripes ) - although it is brand spanking new.
I really don't mind offering, as I'm hoping to "pay it forward" after another PHer did me a massive favour with some pedals, chainrings, and a brake calliper to patch up my MTB. (thanks to richardxjr for that help

In case of emergency, I carry a piece cut from an old tyre which can be glued to the inside of a tyre in case of a bad split on a ride which will then take full pressure and will get you home.Fluffsri said:
