Best route planner app?

We're in the process of planning our longest ride and want an app on which we can chose the route and then use it as a sat nav on an android or apple phone attached to the bike. What are the best ones?

The main requirement is that we chose the route rather than the app choosing it for us.

I mainly use it for mountain biking as the path marking is excellent (it even shows steps!). You can mark a route on it although it's quite a basic click on the map at each point route planner. It will enable you to follow the route on screen but not sure how power intensive this is.

I use map my ride, no issues with routes, uploading to Garmin etc.

Apparently MapMyRide will do this, but I can't get the Nav to work on the app at all.

Tried quite a few and settled on Bike Hike (www.bikehike.co.uk) like others have said. Works seamlessly with my Garmin.

Right, here's what I think will work:
1 Use Map My Ride website to plot your route (requires free registration) and then download the .GPX file.

2 Then email the .GPX file to yourself so you can access it on the phone

3 Then get Bike Hub app for iPhone (think there's Android too) for free.

4 Click on the .GPX file from the email and it will open in Bike Hub, which then does turn by turn navigation with voice that will overlay with your music if you want. The screen is also "kept alive".

I think this is a reasonable solution since the Map My Ride website I think is good for making point to point to point style routes and export as a .GPX file, and the Bike Hub app can uses these and does proper good tomtom style full screen nav that works!
