Not a sensible option, but interesting...

I've seen a few tuning options from the big names and some modified 911's for sale that offer near GT2 993 spec, but started life in different forms. The advantage with these cars is a lower price than the original GT2's, which obviously command a massive premium.

Some start with a 993TT and some with a 993RS as a basis, but end up quite similar; massive turbo power, semi stripped out, track suspension. Pretty much a GT2 wannabe.

The question is which is best? It comes down to a few issues:

1. AWD or RWD - which is preferable. AWD obviously easier in damp conditions, but RWD possibly better fun and more capable on the track? Also RWD is around 80kg lighter and has less to go wrong too.

2. Resale value - Starting with an RS, you know the suspension settings and the chassis are going to be spot on straight away, so no need to spend money all over the place. In fact the only thing touched is the GT2 engine upgrade. This rare car must hold it's value much better than a modded TT, especially when a lot of people won't pay more for a modded everyday type 911. Trackday enthusiasts would possibly appreciate a fettled RS though, so maybe the extra outlay may be recouped.

So what do you guys think about these tuning companies options? I know a much safer place to leave a pile of cash would possibly be in a standard 993TT 'S', or a Ruf Turbo R, or standard 996TT etc.

I think these options stem from the tuning companies that compete for the fastest times around the ring. Even on the latest models, some start with the 996TT and some with the GT3. Just good fun, or a waste of money?

Opinions? Pro's / con's etc...

I would get a standard 993RS, then tune it up as funds allow.

You can get 400bhp normally aspirated out of the 993RS engine anyway, which may be a 'purer' route than super/turbocharging it.

However, if you have a strict budget, the 993TT is much better value at the moment.
