I was looking forward to taking my Chimp to Le Man, but I've just found out that a good friend's wedding is on the same weekend, so I won't be able to make it.

So I'm definitely up for the Nurburgring in May - how does it compare to Le Mans, in terms of the race, the drive over there, the camping, the atmosphere etc?

I'm definitely looking forward to the Autobahns...

Seriously do it, I will be going again this year OK your not going to get the kind of cars you get at Le Mans, but with a mix of club racers, national endurance teams also teams from the DTM in total about 200 cars all racing at once. If you do go give me a shout.

Last years top five

1. BMW MOTORSPORT
Dirk Müller, Jörg Müller, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Pedro Lamy BMW M3 GTR

2. BMW MOTORSPORT
Pedro Lamy, Boris Said, Duncan Huismann, Hans-Joachim Stuck BMW M3 GTR

3. MANTHEY-RACING
Lucas Luhr, Arno Klasen, Timo Bernhard, Olaf Manthey PORSCHE 911 GT3 MR

4. INFINEON TEAM ABT SPORTSLINE
Patrick Huismann, Frank Stippler, Karl Wendlinger, Christian Abt AUDI Abt-Audi TT R

5. FALKEN MOTORSPORTS
Roland Asch, Dirk Schoysmann, Takayuki Kinoshita, Tetsuya Tanaka NISSAN Skyline GT R

Not sure of the cost next year but when I went last it was 45 Euros for all three days general access (general access means everywhere! Pitlane, Mercedes grandstand, strart finish)

The sport committee scheduled next years race in its meeting of 05.11.2004 finally.

33. ADAC Zurich 24h-Race 2005 will take place at the Nuerburgring at

05th - 08th of May 2005.

Start of the 24h-Race will be at 07th of May presumably again around 3 p.m.

Thanks for the info Dave, I'll definitely be looking into it.

Is it typically camping then? If so, what are the good sites? Some people in our group also might prefer hotels, if they are aren't too expensive?

Which is the best ferry to catch? Is there a convoy of nice cars that usually come across from the UK like Le Mans, albeit in smaller quantities one would imagine?

I'll try and come up with a schedule and see which of my mates would be interested, then I'll come back to you.

Very good directions on the trip planning page, incidentally read the "Fangio" page as well.

The race is held on the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit (24,5 KMs). The race weekend is 05. - 08. May 2005. The atmosphere it's quite like at LM, even a bit more rudimentarily (barbecues on open fires all around the track, fireworks in the middle of the night, hordes of drunken people, you name it...). There are viewing areas all around the circuit but it's not easy to get everywhere because there's usually absolute chaos on the roads. There's a free bus service which takes you around the circuit to the interesting viewing areas but I recommend to leave your car in one of the car parks and take a bicycle to get around and about. The race itself is totally different to LM. The fastest cars are GTs (converted DTM cars and the Alzen Turbinchen) down to 1 Liter Minis and such. Last year the starter list was 22 pages long (215 cars), just to give an idea...
I wasn't there last year because the date clashed with LM but I'll be definately be in next year. The official web site is http://adac.24h-rennen.de/.

This is not mad Friday...

I agree, would be great to meet up with some PHers over there.

Mods - could you we a Nurburgring forum under 'Events' like Le Mans? I don't think General Motorsport does it justice as it seems to be about a lot more than that...

Excellent informationa dna glad everyone so positive about the event. I assume tickets / camping are easier to get hold of than for Le Mans ?

Tickets are available at the gate for less than 50 Euros (can't remember exactly, includes transfer bus). Camping is 8 Euros per day, permissions can be ordered via the web site.

I'm still in but there are no plans yet other than that I will be there from friday on.

Will there be any forum members in the race ? I remember one or two doing so in 2003.
