where does the vin plate go ? cant re-call

well I have booked the MOT for this Saturday and I am aware that the VIN plate needs to be on the car. The car is a 72 Midget, and I guess it goes where it can be easily read, but wanting to drill holes on the right place and do it once can I ask the MG collective where its fitted. Something tells me it was near the carbs, but any pointers ??
