What to look for when buying sc targa
Discussion
Morning all,
Currently considering purchase of SC Targa. Have owned Sc Coupe before so know what to look for generally but is there anything specific on the targa? Presumably roof seals and driving noise? Anything else?
And while I'm here..what is it about Targas that means lower price?? Is it just the loss of the classic coupe profile or is there more to it than that? Someone told me they blow the head off you when the roofs off so they're not really that pleasant on a sunny day. I never used the sunroof on my coupe for the same reasons.
Cheers

I'd check the condition & operation of the targa unit itself - of course you need to check the rest of the car too.
I have a 964targa which must be pretty similar to an SC in practice - roof off is great - no buffeting, my kids in the rear seats have never complained either.
Price to refurb or replace the targa is a shocking amount - they're £12k+ from an OPC - important that the frame/mech is in good condition - the material is a relatively easy but still pricey affair.

£12k for a targa top? Is it manufactured from titanium?I have a 964targa which must be pretty similar to an SC in practice - roof off is great - no buffeting, my kids in the rear seats have never complained either.

I have a 964 targa, on which as above the roof is almost the same. My first targa panel had damage on the alloy frame, I bought a replacement from a breakers for about £1k and sold the old one. The replacement has just been properly refurbed, you need a trimmer who knows how to set these up, some have been bodged.
What to look out for? Damage to the roof frame is expensive, other issues such as replacing the skin, reducing wind noise, adjusting window edges can all be done for sensible money, but might be negotiating points.
Look for rust around the bottom of the rear screen, water can get under the seal.
I love the looks, the kids fit into the back well, wind noise at speed roof off is fine, and the car is pretty stiff and drives well. The sound with the windows down and roof off is great too.
I suspect that if you like the targa then for the money you will get a better car than the equivalent coupe.
