I'm at T-10 days from picking up a new base Cayman and it's time to start some planning. Interested in what everyone did with their first drive? Make a weekend tour of it? A 100-mile round trip? Or a careful drive home from the dealer to tuck it in the garage?

I picked my previous boxster up from Porsche in Towcester on the way to Cadwell Park for a track day. Nice roads there, great chance to learn the car in a controlled environment... Even better drive home!

I did 1,000 miles including the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Brecon Beacons! Was a nice introduction to my new car. All in the first 48 hours! Minimal use of motorways in between destinations.

The previous car I did London to Paris / Le Bourget to Strasbourg to Stuttgart to Dusseldorf to Amsterdam to Brussels back to the UK. All in the first five days. You gotta break em in! Then I went to the Brecon Beacons the weekend after just for good measure.

Stuttgart via reims and metz over a couple.of.days to get there.

Drove back from stuttgart via the Ring in a day. 12 hours and around 800 miles. Easily cruised at near 160mph on the autobahn on the way home.

No problem for a 20 year old 911. smile

303 miles, Glasgow to Leicester - a fantastic way to gradually learn a new car.

I'm T-3 days (Thursday) from collecting my first car (a 2.5 Boxster).

The return trip will be from Scottish borders, across the country to the central belt - avoiding motorways. Sunny spells forecast, fingers crossed I can get the roof off.

I'm like a 5 year old at Christmas, it's ridiculous.

Not a Porsche but picked up a Lamborghini 12 months old with 450 miles on the clock and in first 2 weeks of ownership did 3200 miles around Europe. Poor thing didn't know what was happening!!

That's great news, and a really nice sounding drive. Know what you mean about being a kid waiting for Christmas...
