cycling in france

Hi guys...
am off to france tomorrow morning and will be taking the bike for the first time. Got my routes planned on the garmin, so am all set..except, i've never cycled abroad and wondered if there's anything I should do differently to cycling at home...ie positioning, priorities, dealing with traffic etc...
I'm quite lucky as my parents live in southern normandy, so it's fantastically quiet, rural with undulating scenery, so it should be ace :-)

Any advice would be tres welcome! merci mes amis

When I did some riding in Northern France, the only thing I noticed was that the roads you're not allowed to ride on look like fairly regular A-roads here, so we were getting beeped left right and center despite being on a fairly normal looking road, so maybe just make sure the routes avoid main roads (as I am sure they do, we got lost ).
