I'll be doing self assessment for the first time soon (13/14 tax year).

I'd like to get it out of the way as I'll be due a refund of a few hundred quid.

How soon after 5th April can I do it (assuming work sort out P60 and P11d fairly quickly)?

Can I claim things from previous tax years? I've been paying professional fees and never claimed them before.

Thanks

Are you an employee or do you own the company and so have total knowledge of all financial matters?

If the latter, then fine but if not I would wholly recommend waiting for your P11d before filing just in case there's something amiss with your numbers.

Re your claiming for expenses for earlier years, the deadline for the year ended 5th April 2010 expires tomorrow night so if possible ger a letter done and drop it off at a tax office or enquiry centre tomorrow.

Yes. Calculating P11D figures have proved pretty straight forward over the years. smile
