Morning all

Off to look at my first Tuscan later today

Anything I need to be aware of? It's being advertised by a reputable dealer so assume warrantees will apply

Cheers Mark

Mark,
See you've had a Chimaera before - so not totally a TVR virgin.

Mk1 Tuscans - I'd check heater blower/controls....loads of stuff on here regarding failing ecu's/blower motors. Then Mirror controls - control pad sits almost horizontally on driver's door pull, as a result can get wet....just by opening door in rain! (mine did!) and micro-switches start to fail.

Check door/targa roof seal for 'springiness' to pop door. Check seal around rear plastic windscreen...as they get old they cause water ingress to section/carpets behind seats.

Enjoy though! Nick

yeah had a Chimaera for 4-5 years and loved it but had to sell.. Think i was lucky as i had 5 years eith only a starter motor needed. The previous guy was an AA roadside guy and seemed to have looked after it well.

So it sounds like typical standard things to look out for in relation to electrics.

the car in question has had a TVR Power rebuild, but that was some time ago. Is there any way of knowing if the engine could be in need of another rebuild?

thanks

I am sure you are aware having had a TVR before but the Tuscan MK1 is a very twitchy car on the road and In my experience requires adjustment to get the best from it.

Coilovers have they been changed If standard I would change to Gaz Nitrons or similar.
Wheel aligment has it been done recently as they were not good when they left the factory.
Raising the steering rack and spacers again ask if it has been done I think the newer Tuscans had the rack raised about 15mm with a spacer below the rack and the fixing point on the chassis and there was some talk on here that a wheel spacer wided the track and made handling improvements.

And of course has it had an engine rebuild and by who/when. It may not have needed one, iT might never but if ut does you will have to pull £7K big ones from your pocket so In my opinion the price should reflect this. If it has been rebuilt by people like Power and Str8six then you do not need to worry they are bulit proof and will last many, many, many miles.

Rear window seal does it leak,
Does the roof panel fit well with very little wind noise at speed.

And of course clutch and chassis when was it last changed and what is the condition of the chassis.

I no longer have my MK1 Tuscan but it was a hell of a car very fast and drivable when I sorted the above and getting the back window and roof off and going for a blast listening to the wonderfull sound of the SP6 engine and exhaust (Carbon Can company) is a wondefull experience.

Good luck with the purchase.

George

Test the engine - really only compressions and leak-down on each cylinder will 'indicate' condition of bores and valve tightness?

Well that was a short process

I seemed to have bought myself a Tuscan..... Just need to check a few things out. Had rebuild by TVR Power so just want to see what info dom has.

The colour was put off, but in the flesh it was rather nice, crystal topaz

Totally different car to the chim, so much more refined and seemingly well built.

Good colour choice , exactly the same as mine , had Nitrons , Geo and rack sorted and boy what a difference , at high speeds it used to wander but now is so much more planted , also had the wheels refurb to shadow chrome .

very nice, was considering shadow chrome wheels myself although the ones on the car are immaculate. As for the colour really wasnt convinced but far far nicer in the flesh.

Just need to clear a space in the garage now for the arrival..

one of the only issue cosmetically is one of the clear indicators is a little ropey and damp. Are this cheap and easily fixed?

Nice looking car, for what you are paying to Tony, get him to change the indicators for you

The rebuilds by TVR Power and Str8Six amongs others corrected the original engine issues and so you should be good.
I'm sure Dom will confirm oil way mods and other stuff.
Once done the Speed Six is great and good for many miles.

Congrats and enjoy the summer.
