Now I lov eboth the cerbera and the chimaera , but and heres the question, could you put a cerbera interior, obviously not the back seats, in a chimaera, taking into account the change of position of the instuments could it be done? and secondly what about fitting a nice reliable 5.0 V8 in a cerb, would it fit?? having looked under the bonnet on the one i had you could probably get a spare one in there as well... just some thoughts.....

anyone ??

First thought is that AJP8 engines are reliable. It is just the rest of the car that seems to be dodgy (shocks, electrics, etc.)

I imagine the Carisma chap, Jamie, is the man to speak to but it's not going to be cheap.

The Rover V8 in the Cerbera, that would even make it very interesting for us far abroad with our concerns in maintainance.
Count me, too.

Great idea!

The cerbera was designed for the Rover V8 initially (I think).

A Mustang engine, in a TVR, never!

So what was the Boss302 engine and the 289 engine fitted to the 1960s/1970 Tuscan then, if it isn't Mustang related????

The engine is something that can be argued over ad infinitum.

The interior would be a no-go I should think – there's enough wiring bollox behind the dash without complicating matters by putting the clocks from the Cerb in there and all the little gizmos it has.

Someone not so long ago wanted to put a Griff interior in a Chim or the other way round.

Bet that idea is still on the drawing board!

I posted the question could you change the early Chim dash to the later one and got a mixed bag of replies so I don't want to even go there with this query.

Actually, I don't think the Rover engine would fit in the AJP8 bay - the AJP8 is rather small and is 75 degrees rather than 90 - it looks pretty snug low down there as is. Also, the exhaust manifold goes down and back, rather than forward.

Yes, but the Ford 4.6 V8 has a service interval of 100,000 miles and that just wouldnt do would it.

The Ford engine fits the T5 gearbox and I belive that there is an off the shelf supercharger as well what more could you want. Ford R&D would give a relible cost effective alternative to a Cerbera engine rebuild ($3200)

After 4.2 and 4.5 Cerberas, I ordered a Marcos Mantis with a Votec supercharged Mustang Cobra engine (4.6 4ohc, 32v).
Marcos retrofitted and intercooler, 'race' radiator and modified the ECU to improve reliability and power and, as I recall, it ended up producing 480bhp (flywheel) on a rolling road. The engine bay looked good too.

If what you're trying to achieve is a topless Cerbera, how about starting with a nice one and getting a reputable company to make a conversion? In fixed head cars the roof is part of the structural stiffness of the design, so I guess you'd need reinforcing struts etc in various places. But it's done been done by specialists before with 'ordinary' cars before the manufacturer recognises the demand.

The trouble with the Mustang engine is that is Ruddy enormous! At least a foot wider than the rover and getting on for 200Kg other than that top choice.

The Rover engine will NOT fit in the Cerbera because it is too wide at the top, but a BMW M5 will fit

Blimey You mean the engine bay is so big in the Cerbie that you can fit a whole car in there!?
Surely given that you could easily get the Rover V8 engine in there!

1. Originally the Cerbera was due to have the Rover V8 and the original test mule had the Rover V8 and and and..... Needless to say it will fit I have seen it done

2. The cerbera has an F.I.A. approved roll cage in the roof i.e. 3 bars from memory which is part of the structural design of the car but a 2+2 soft top would be perfect.

So some one find a rolled one with a blown engine, (probably not that hard find) an old tuscan challenge 450bhp rover V8 and there we go my perfect car !!!!!!!!

what about removing the center roof section and having a tuscan style convertable??? sure that could be done without too much trouble, wouldnt have to remove any of the structural supports.... the original idea was to either make a chim with a cerby interior, which i prefer, or a cerby with thwe rover V89 to make it a little cheaper to maintain.....(service costs being a little prohibitive for me on a cerby)
