I'm looking for some advice here.
I applied and was accepted for a loan from Santander, but due to a mix up the wizards that work there managed to cancel my application. I was told it's non-reversible and that I wont stand a good chance of getting accepted if I apply again because of this appearing on my credit record. How long do you have to wait for that to not affect it? I'd found a car that I wanted to buy and that's what the loan was for, but now that plan is f

Sounds very odd. At the very least I'd imagine they would have an underwriting dept that they could refer to who would see that an application was recently approved and override a decline decision (if that was the case). That's if what they've told you is the truth.I applied and was accepted for a loan from Santander, but due to a mix up the wizards that work there managed to cancel my application. I presume you bank with Santander? Do you bank with anyone else? What is your credit rating like?
I bank solely with Santander. I only have Noddle to go on for my credit rating, and it shows 3/5. I don't know why it isn't higher, when I had an Experian account it was 900-odd. I only have one direct debit set up on my bank account and I've had a couple of loans in the past and never missed a payment.

But won't it show up as me having a loan accepted? and if I'm applying for another then a different lender will see that and won't know that it's been cancelled, they'll just think I'm trying to get two loans and that I'm in some kind of dire straits.
Will only show as an accepted application. Won't show as an outstanding balance as the loan has not started/been drawdown. Only way another lender would know is if you declare it as a commitment on their affordability assessment. Which obviously you won't 'cos it isn't!Mercury00 said:

Some would say that's what happens when you bank with the UK's worst excuse for a fI applied and was accepted for a loan from Santander, but due to a mix up the wizards that work there managed to cancel my application. sAs you claim they cancelled your application which had an effect on your credit rating did you write them a letter of complaint asking what happened? What was the result of said letter?
Ah right, that sounds sensible then. Thanks!
EDIT: Sir Bagalot - It only happened this morning so have not written them a letter, although it was partly my fault. I applied online for the loan and was accepted earlier in the week, then phoned them up this morning to ask some questions about the loan, basically asking if the amount could be changed after being accepted. They said it would take a week to get forms through, they'd have to cancel this loan, loads of hassle etc. so I flippantly said "okay, just forget it then" I thought quite obviously meaning my phone enquiry. By the time I realised what was happening they'd cancelled it and said it couldn't be undone.
Annoying, but partly (or maybe mostly
)my fault as I said. They said I'd have to wait weeks before applying again, which I wouldn't be too bothered about if I hadn't found a nice car I wanted. In the grand scheme of things it's not really important, the car might be sold by then or I might not be approved for a loan if I applied in a few weeks, so I'll probably just forget about it. Lesson learnt.
