Anyone else had letters from CPP ?
Discussion
I've had about three letter from them now and it looks like they are at different stages of a claim procedure. I've tried talking to them and feel there's a strange scenario happening - like they are being forced to inform people of money being taken without knowledge, yet are reluctant to let on the full reasons why such people should claim.
Also, the claim will only go through if there are enough votes, but it seems with little knowledge of what has actually happened, people might be ignorant about the claim and consequently won't be bothered to vote.
Or am I reading this wrong ?

Yes i have, although I haven't really looked at it in much detail.
I have now been invited to make a application, which i think has to be done by August or something.
I'm not sure what to make of it really, I've been meaning to have a chat with someone i know who works on PPI claims in a bank.
I do remember the f
kers though, in my youth they stitched me up on some sort of payment and identity protection with a horrendous auto renewal figure. I'm not sure if it is this or something since then, like you say they are very light on the details.

Yes the application has got to be made by August. I asked if it was PPI and the bloke on the other end sounded miffed I associated it with PPI. Apparently it is Card Payment Protection, what ever that is.I have now been invited to make a application, which i think has to be done by August or something.

Not knowing I was being charged CPP, is enough reason, I would imagine, for the claim to be valid ?
I get the feeling the company who are writing to us, 'CPP', have been set up as an independent body, by the banks to assist in getting the cash back to its rightful owner ? Probably forced on the banks by the courts ?

No I think CPP are the company are the people that have supplied the insurance in the past. My recollection of them was on a store card donkeys ago now, although i only found out about it a lot later when the "policy" renewed. It is possible that I've unwittingly received their services since however I don't recall anything. On my paperwork they haven't identified anything in particular I think its been written to sound as general as possible so's not to alert you to anything.
I've obviously "unwittingly received their services" at some point. Mine was through Virgin CC, which is linked to the Bank of America. I also had a small list of services that I had to choose from, in my letter. They seemed reluctant to tell me and as I didn't know about the CPP, I didn't know who had charged me it. In the end I sent in a copy of my driving licence to update their security records (requested), then rang them yesterday and they told me who mine was with.Interaction with them over the phone has come across as a bit frosty and not very helpful.
They've essentially admitted that they mis-sold identity protection, the letter states which parts of the agreement were worded wrongly or were sold wrongly. You get a letter for each account you held, i remember both of mine but couldn't for the life of me remember what they were for. Where it asked for the reason for a refund i just stated the part about the policies being mis-sold on the basis that i was not eligible for the protection i was sold
Martin Lewis was talking about this on This Morning, they have to tell you if there is a possibility you were missold card protection. Generally you were as your bank covered you for everything they claimed to cover you for. This isn't a huge refund (£100-£500) but worth having if you think you were missold it. Martin Lewis advised that the sooner you get the form back in the quicker you get the refund as being done on a first come first served basis as such.
Do it. There's nothing to lose:

I've voted and applied and worked out I could get £500 back, due to a "perk" that my bank offers with a premium bank account - HSBC Advance

I actually did have their service, called "Card Guard" on my HSBC account years ago.
Basically it proported to look after you in the event of identity theft, lost cards & fraud etc.
Unfortunately, the cover you received was just what the banks would offer you regardless in the event of fraudulent activity.
Thus, they overstated their claims & are guilty of misselling.
What I can't figure out is that I reckon that I had this service from something like the year 2000 but any claim (the letter says) only covers post 2005 issues. I've sent the letter back but don't think I'll get much (if anything) back from them.
