50 Years of Matchbox Cars
Discussion
When I was about 5 matchbox effectively belonged to the Government because they had had so much subsidy to build new factories in Hackney. My mum was a civil servant and had to go there on a tour, being the kind mother she is she asked to take me too as I was obsessed by cars (no change there) If you can imagine a small child in heaven equivalent to Mr Wonkas chocolate factory, this was it. They took me to a room where they dumped the faulty product. It was a warehouse which seemed to be huge and was with a conveyor belt dropping faulty matchbox cars onto a pile rather like grain into a barn. the pile was 30 foot high and I could not speak. I was left to play there while they finshed the tour.....
