My good lady & I are touring again this year in our Classic Alfa Spider. Last week in June, first week in July.

Very grateful for a route please, scenic but good roads preferred.

Thanks,

Simon & Clare

Definitely do the Route Napolean, take a diversion off onto the D2 which takes you over the Col D Vence (stunning road) and just east of Troyes, the D996 is a lovely bit of road down to Dijon.

We drove the Route Napoleon - very nice it is too - recommended yes

Allow yourself more time than you think if you want to stop along the way. We didnt so whilst the drive was nice it wasnt all it could have been for us.

The Gorges du Verdon is a must see whilst down that way if you have a chance. We stayed in a place called Castellane for 2 nights with the choice being to either spend the day exploring the Gorges or go to Cannes...we chose the Gorges. No regrets smile

My advice is not to get too hung up on the Route Napoleon!

Thanks for the comments thus far.

Not hung up on it per se just something we want to do, especially as we have friends in Antibes. Will be taking it easy as in the old girl so scenic important.

Any suggestion as to stops on route? Home to Folkestone on day one smile

I shall be driving down to Cannes for a wedding on July 5th. In my 1989 Mercedes 300SL. Am planning to take a mix of routes nationals and autoroutes, but not sure of the final route yet. I'll pick up my partner from Nice Airport and we'll drive back together after the wedding. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the route you've decided on- my research is just beginning!

Just to update this as we're now in our third overnight stop hotel in Sisteron.

We did 250 to Folkestone on Saturday, 486 to Lyon yesterday & 157 to Sisteron today, getting on the N85 near Grenoble.

Loving the scenery & some aspects of the road and on times, wishing we were in one of our more modern V6 Alfa's, not the old heavily laden Spider....lol

Got to watch the BiB over here. We've been fine apart from one roadside flash but the Modball Rally lot have been hit hard!!

Cannes tomorrow, 7 nights of luxury with a couple of days trips to include Monaco & Col d Turini.

Back via Millau & Paris, the latter being why I have to work on a sticky, hard to modulate throttle pedal later!

Cheers,

Simon

We've used the Ibis. Everything you want including a pool, aircon, free wifi & parking. Restaurant good too.
