Never done it apart from old bangers-
this is about advice for the deal not for finding the right car

How to pay for it - save for me and the buyer (15k in cash I am not sure)
I have the money - its just the question of getting it to the person - what to exact on exchange and when
Is there a contract to download????
HPI check - is it essential and where to get it from cheaply?
Anything else?

Don't get a cheap HPI go onto their website and get a proper one. Ask buyer how they would like to be paid. I like to pay by bank transfer, do it on the day when collecting the car seller can check funds have cleared into account usually quite quick but can take up to 2 hrs and the jobs a goodun.

Check with your bank the max that can be transfered, you may have to a) Transfer some funds the day before, b) Take some cash, c) transfer in two hits from different accounts.

You don't need a contract, a hand written recipt (signed by both of you is good enough)
