Go Pro Wiring to Car Battery

I have a go pro which I use in my MX5 track car via a cigarette lighter type 12v socket & power lead. works fine.

I now have a second track car which is a stripped out clio 172 with roll cage that has the battery in the back.

I would like to run cables direct from the battery in the back, up the roll cage struts into a 12v socket then use my existing lead to the go pro.

I am gonna need a DC voltage regulator or something in order to protect the Go pro from source / surge current from the battery, but not sure which to go for, don't want any cheap chinese stuff off e-bay, but equally don't want to pay a fortune.

Firstly, am I going about this the right way and does anyone know the best thing to go for

I picked up a couple of fuse taps from ebay, you can get them for different blade sizes. The idea being tap into a circuit on the board that's ignition live quickly and solder your lead into it. That might work for you. I wouldnt go straight for the battery as it's always on. It also assumed that you have space left in your fusebox
