Hmm,

Gear shift is a bit of hassle when having fun. On the upside if you time the change and the clutch you get a very smooth take up.

The ride is a bit wollowey.

Me oil preasure seems to be on full all the time and it goes through a lot of oil So it's off to the garage soon (Hypertension in a car eh!) I need some new rear tyres.

Still content with the motor and looking for a new one in just over a year. I

bad loser

I'm the owner of a 3200 automatic so not really qualified to answer but I did drive a 4200 manual for a couple of days.

I would definitely consider a manual in the future - I think the gearbox is just something to get used to.

You had to thump the 4200 into second, when cold, otherwise it'd jump into neutral but I soon got used to it.

Having always driven manuals (though never a performance car until the 3200) I miss selecting what I consider to be the right gear.

Other than that, I love my car and would like to have tuition by an advanced driver so I'd know how hard I could push it into corners, and so on.

I second Chris' comments but:

1. The sport suspension does improve the handling

2. My car uses about 1 litre every 500 miles. This has been confirmed to be within tolerance (Maranello who pressure tested the engine, if that makes sense), but at £7.50 a litre, this adds up if you use the car. Apparently, Castrol have brought out a competing oil which is half the price. I think it is time for a change from Selenia racing oil, which is also hard to get hold of...

I use the Selenia stuff as well, but my Alfa garage charge £15 inc. VAT for 2 litres

I get the proper oil and have used about 10 litre's in 10,000 miles. I get it from JCT600 at around £12 a litre. I normally make sure i have a spare all the time.

I generally drive mine in sport mode but still find the handling a bit wallowey until you have loaded the car into a turn. At that point it's then well on.

Still think it's brill , just under a years warranty left. I'll probably get an extended one for a year or two then trade for another

Only picked mine up on tuesday so can't comment on the oil front (will keep an eye out at that rate though), I went for the CC over Manual, & with the later software installed it is much better than the early systems, not perfect, but allot of fun (in two days), engine sounds and goes better than my 5.0 TVR.

Ever since Vmax IV I wanted the sound of (or as close as I could get) those Ferrari 355s, but wanted more of a GT, which the 4200 fits the bill perfectly IMO.

considered and drove:

XKR / M3 SMG / 500SL / 911 cabrio / SLK350

but the Maserati won the day as I think it carries some of what the TVR has (which i loved), character and Individuality, not the best handling out of the above but then neither was my TVR best handling in class, best grin IMO htough, which is more important to me.

Cant really say much more as I haven't had it long enough, but I am very pleased with it so far

edited to say: I hate the radio controls being so far away, controls on the wheel would be a good idea.

pvapour - I changed the radio to a panasonic head unit / cd with a multiplay cd in the boot and fulla pline speaker system (custom) as i didnt want to change the interior.

I was stunned at how bad the original speaker system was ! Poor quality overall ! but hey ! you cant have it all !

funny to watch audio company spend three days installing the system due to the excellent build quality of the maserati !

wink

Get in touch with Roberto Giordanelli: www.roberto-giordanelli.com/
He's a qualified race instructor & very experienced driver/tester of all things Italian. I've done a few track days with him & they're great value - you come away a lot faster and safer than you were before

must admit . when i got my car back she didnt like rush hour traffic ! kept "jolting" !!!
once she wamrned up she was fine but hard to get used to in 1st and 2nd gear ! (maybe my driving perhaps !!)

second gear is a sod to get into when cold !

would i change anything about her ? Not a chance !
I love the 3200 through and through !

one statment :
When i drive her home I always look back when she's parked up - something that no other car has made me do ! i even get back in her to drive her again !

the pro's outweigh the cons in the 3200 . Love the car !

Well time for my 2 penneth then

Gearbox - don't know what you're all moaning about - mine is smooth as, ok a litle clunky in sub zero temps when you first get moving, but never had the car pop out of gear or refuse to engage. perhaps mine is smoother being a lst of the line car...)

Air Con - sometimes puffs out moist air on startup (seen this on other cars too) and also suprisingly starts pumping out moisture as you push to speeds over 150mph ()..

Stereo seems pretty good to me, but then I guess I've never been spoilt on that front!

Wheels - paint comes of the alloys easily and looks poor.

RE OIL the maserati dervice guys mentioned to me that any shell branded 'ferrari' oil was ok, so 10W 40 is fine as well as 10W 60 in theory - much cheaper. I still use selenia though, 7.50 per litre, but then I've had the car 14 months now and only needed to top up 4 times, each time with 1 litre only.

Main bugbear is the seats - very comfy up to the shoulders but would prefer more bucket / sport style seats, headres is so far behind my head that it probably wouldn't even prevent whiplash!

Ok, my turn.

I Love the autobox for day to day driving, the only time I really want a manual is at vmax.

Plenty of room inside (its currently our family car), good boot. Love the looks over a 4200 (lights & bonnet vents), its comfy & fast & gets the right kind of attention.

Have had virtually no problems with it, stereo is great.

What would I change?.... Would like an armrest, a sunroof (although would ruin the lines etc), satnav & cruise control. Thats it. pretty much perfect, for me anyhow.

yeah - always wondered why this was lacking - seems like a no brainer on a gt car of this class?

I always felt that about the seats - sore shoulders and a head restaint that was too far back even when tilted forward. The all in one seats of the 4200 are much nicer.

agreed, i am looking at changing the rear lights to the boomerang ones, the profile of the wing on the 4200 is exactly the same as the 3200 so would be possible to transplant, as is the boot lid which would also he to be changed, does'nt look like to big a job but not sure I dislike the original lights on the 4200 now I have lived with it for a few days

What a b*tch the dipstick is to get to as well.

good points so far guys.

i changed the speaks in the 3200 for custom fit and was really surprised about the poor quality original speakers from maserati.

for what its worth if anyone is upgrading i chose a Pioneer DEH-P77MP with built in amp which not only compliments the interior of the car (the stereo is quite understated and has a gunmetal brushed aluminium finish combined with a no nonsense display!) but there was enough power (50w x 4 Built in) to supply the custom Apline Speakers which replace the front tweeters and door speakers.
the rear speaker were difficult to get to as the bolt were so well tightened by Maserti ! (build quality of the 3200 is A1 ! )
overall the car now has a system which has not altered the interior at all but the sound has an "added dimension" with clarity rather than "Bass".
I felt the original Becker system was ok but the Speakers were crap and the sound felt "muffled".
When you see the original maserati speakers in your hand you will ask yourself why in such a "status" car and exclusive model did Maserati install such cheap quality speakers ?
For a small outlay the audio system has greatly improved.

Hope this info is of help ?
