Hi all
anyone know of a good mobile mechanic with electrical fault finding?
Been trying to get the Xj40 XJR out of the garage for the last couple of months and it just wont start! Drove it in there about 5 months ago and stupidly didnt disconnect the battery. Recharged and nothing, jump leads give Jacques Merde so i changed the rotor arm and dizzy cap on saturday...............still nowt so i called our friendly Green Flag, he sort of diagnosed the coil so i just changed that, though i cant see how changing Mrs Jags contraception is gonna make my Jag work......still he's the expert!
Still getting nothing although the motor is spinning up nicely, just not firing. Just want it working.

if anyone has anyone in mind please let me know,

cheers
Darren

I take it you've done the obvious, actually checked that the plugs are sparking and that there's fuel getting to the right places?

Just asking like! thumbup

I would start with Fuel Pump. But could be any thing. Did he say why the wife's Coil may be at fault?

There was mention of a coil but I think Daz usually wears one as a cap......

Barry O'Dell lives round the corner from you - he's kind of retired now but can sometimes be tempted out of hibernation. I don't have his contact details but he can be found now and again hanging out at Beach Road Garage, I guess they will have his number if he isn't there.

Tell them I said Hi.

This chap in chichester, Pete Someoneorother. I used him to sort central locking on a Merc and bought one of my E28's from him.

Done the spark and fuel bits, fuel pump is priming and theres no spark to the plugs! this seems to be a coil problem as tested by the very nice man, though a new coil fitted last night has failed to rectify. Im starting to think its an immobiliser problem.
I do sometimes wear a coil on my head and to be fair, in 48 years ive never fell pregnant, proof indeed that these are a reliable source of contraception.

just off to see if i can track down Wassisname from Chichester!

I'm no mechanic, but could the leads be corroded?

Short of that, I'd recommend Laver Electrics, but I think they're pretty stuck up here in Southampton. If they'll come out though, they're good. not sure if they're up to the standard of Bob Oogamiflip, but who is?

No question whatsoever in my mind, that it is this.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Can you identify the immobiliser Daz? ie is it aftermarket or OEM?

Hello Ian,

The alarm sounder has Scorpion 159 on it and is typical of the stuff fitted in the 90's! Lots of wires everywhere so a lottery for me on which to cut!! Defo aftermarket with sensor fobs to offer up to the steering column. Thing is it won't turn over unless this is done, when it is 'swiped' the dash lights come on, the engine turns over but won't fire up, getting frustrated with it now!

Do Scorpion still exist? If they do could you get a wiring diagram from them? If you could then removing it should be fairly straight forward.

Maybe a quick google will throw some light?

There is a guy near Petersfied called Carl Baker or Barker. The default guy where TVR alarms are concerned. So that makes him good with after market stuff too. Do a google for TVR Alarms and he'll be on the first page.
