Anyone know exactly how much wider the track is on a V8S over a regular S model, and what causes it? I'm guessing wishbones?

According to Autocar Magazine, the V8S track is 56.6", whereas the earlier S track is 55". At the rear, the trailing arms make up the difference - I don't know if the halfshafts are different lengths or there is sufficient 'slide' in the joints to accommodate this. At the front, I'm not sure if the difference comes from the wishbones or the chassis. I have a feeling the V8S chassis may be a bit wider - there are certainly other differences between the two chassis at the front. The ARB and rack are presumably different as well.

I'm pretty sure the driveshafts are the same, there's certainly enough movement in them to fit an s3 arm to a v8 (as I discovered a "TVR specialist" had done to mine at some point)

I reckon the extra width at the front is all in the wishbone and the chassis is (at least in terms of width across the wishbone mounting points) the same. smile

Cheers. I've got some in bits here so I'll take a measure to them. Was hoping someone would say "oh, it's 20mm" laugh

Not sure why I rated this an 18 either. Stupid tablet!

AFAICR the wider front is due to the cahssis rails being wider but with the same wishbones and the wider rear being achieved by slightly different training arms and hence hub mounts.

My information disagrees.

I believe it's all in the wishbones and some have converted to the v8 wider track.

Just as I was led to believe I've not personally measured anything.

Cheers

Hi All
I also thought it was the wishbones.

Probably someone will be on shortly to show us more pictures of their chassis porn.

You're probably right with the front being wishbones, it's Been a few years since I ran a v8s.

The V8S chassis came back yesterday, so I'll measure it and find out what the differences are.

I only ask because I'm being a complete tart, and want to space the wheels out on the S1 to match the V8S setup, for no other reason than I prefer the way it looks. laugh

Finally had a chance to do some measuring today....

Right, the difference is a combination of suspension and chassis, for the front end.

The upper chassis rails are in the same place between an S2 and a V8S that I've had side by side today (approx 600mm apart). However, the eyelets for the top wishbones on the V8S are slightly bigger, and the mounting holes are positioned 675mm apart side to side, compared with the regular S's 670mm. The lower eyelets are the same.
The upper wishbone on a V8S is much longer than the upper wishbone on my S1. It must be 20mm or so longer! It's also a slightly different shape. I couldn't get to the bottom one to measure it.

The rear end is purely down to the arms. The V8S trailing arm could be fitted to the S2 chassis and visa-versa. The mounts are in the same position on the rear beam - the only difference is the size of the arms, as the V8S ones seem to set the offset about 7-8mm further out than the S2 ones. Of course the shocker mounts etc are different, and the V8S arms are adjustable for tracking.

I did take pics of much of it, but the same differences are in the suspension arms from what I've seen today, and it looks like it's all interchangeable too.

Interesting thanks for taking the time to measure it all.

Cheers Damian
