Ribble Gran Fondo

Hi everyone,

Just after some advice regarding a second hand Ribble Gran Fondo 2011, I don't seem to be able to find many/if any for sale to be able to gauge what price I should be looking to pay. Does anyone have any knowledge of the brand and its second hand values.

The spec of the bike in question is:
Ribble Gran Fondo
Full 6700 Ultegra Groupset
11/25 Cassette
39/53 175mm Chainset
KMC TiNi 10spd Chain
Deda Zero Handle Bars
Deda Quatro Stem
FSA-SLK Seat Post Zero Set Back
4 Season Gator Skin Tyres
SMP Pro Saddle (not included)
Mavic Cosmic Carbone Wheels inc powertap on rear wheel.
Fulcrum 7 Wheels (saddle not included)

The bike has covered approximately 2,000 miles, not sure if parts have been replaced or not.

Any advice on price would be gratefully received.

Quite a few sold on EBay between 900-1500 depending on spec / condition

To buy that bike new using the Ribble bike builder is £2100 that's with the Mavic Cosmics as the Fulcrum 7 are only £135 new.

I'd be looking to pay around £1000 for that seeing as it's 3 years old.

Spec the bike up as if it were new and knock at least 50% off that.

IMO it would have to be a pretty special bike to justify paying a sizeable sum for a 3 yr old bike.

They seem to be about £1,500 new with a similar spec, there are examples of 105 groupset bikes going for £800 on ebay and a new 105 specced bike currently £1k. I'd say £850-£950 is probably fair.

The chap who is selling it wants a £1000 for it which I feel might be slightly steep when you compare with what you can from Planet X or Canyon brand new. I am slightly skeptical about a 3 year old carbon frame, rightly or wrongly. The big plus point is the relaxed geometry, it would certainly help as I am coming from a Giant Defy.

It is for sale on a facebook group that I am a member of. I think I shall leave it a couple of days and see if it is still for sale as there may be room for negotiation.

If it was me, I would offer him £750, if you aren't embarrassed giving an offer figure then it is too high! As you said there is too much new bike competition @ a grand. Never presume that the bike will be in perfect nick, there could be minor issues, some of the blokes in my club turn up to rides on 2k bikes and only have 2 out of 20 gears working!!!

Given the value of the wheels, I'd say that £1000 is a good price.

You're not going to get full Ultegra and that set of wheels for £1k, at that price I think it's a good buy.

Offer him £900 to try and meet at £950 so that you have some money left over for a service and new cables.

Apologies, having just read through my original post I somehow forgot to delete the 'Mavic Cosmic Carbone Wheels inc powertap on rear wheel'. These aren't included in the price, for the £1000 you only get the Fulcrum 7's. With the Mavic's included he wants £2,250...

Judging from your replies so far, it wouldn't be worth anywhere near £1000 with just the Fulcrum 7's on.

A bike is worth as much as you're willing to pay for it, and it's nothing special so don't pay over the odds for it.

Personally I'd offer £700 for it and be prepared to add another 50 quid at the most.

Agree, you could buy a new one with Ultegra 6700 and Racing 7s for £1500, so as Gary says, £700-750 tops.

Plus I have found the smaller presence brands such as Ribble fetch less on the second hand market, compared to Giant and Specz etc as people are less aware of them

I got a unridden as new Wilier roadie for peanuts in the middle of summer (and Olympics) when secondhand Giant Defys and Alezs were being bid up to the prices they would have cost new!

I've a frame sat in the garage that looks immaculate to the naked eye except for a 'scratch' on the top tube, unfortunately that 'scratch' is actually a crack despite it's very innocuous appearance.

Verified by those who look after carbon on aeroplanes...

So you've got a damaged frame? I've got a damaged frame that's made from Aluminium. OP's concern seemed to be that it was three years old and carbon. I don't know why that would be more concerning that it being 3 years old and steel.

My point is that, IMO, damage on a carbon frame is not only easier to occur but also easier to miss on an inspection.
