Depends on the car - my 2007 911 didn't light up, but my new 981 does.

My 987.1 does but you have to start it then pause it for the light to work.

This. If you just drive the car with the lights on and chrono off it doesn't illuminate

That's interesting. I have a 987.2 and notice that the clock doesn't light up. Never occurred to me to start the thing to see if it lights.

Apart from track day use, does anyone actually use these things - or the sport+ button?

It should light up when you set the clock running with the car lights on, otherwise it would be pretty useless!

Actually, it is pretty useless anyway!!

The clock is the naffest thing in the World. I have never used it except to laugh at it/myself. Sports + is pretty much pointless, too, given that Sports mode goes super aggressive if you are positive with the throttle, anyway.

I expect that PDK and the engine management stuff would go into its most aggressive mode almost instantly under full-bore acceleration in Sport mode, making Sports + redundant. I may be wrong, but I am sure my car has chased the red line pretty hard in Sport mode when I have driven hard. Not sure there is anything more to wring out of it (especially as red line is almost certainly not the optimum change point).

Agreed. Wonder why peeps spec the sport chrono pack in the first place? What else does it give you? I find the sport button is plenty aggressive, and takes you deep into licence losing territory if you ae not careful.

I think it's just the clock and sport + mode. The clock I would rather not have; sport + is funny for scaring my wife when she is driving and I press it...(in safe conditions, of course, before anyone cries about it).

On the 997.2 there are a couple of personalisation options that come with the Sport Chrono pack.

On a PDK 987c it's worth speccing on a manual less so and maybe not necessary on a 981

On the 981, SC gives you the dynamic gearbox mounts, which I think aren't available otherwise?

911. Not on a 987.2 Boxster.

The illumination of the clock can be switched on and off using the Porsche PIWIS laptop
when the car is new and the various options are coded when the car is PDI'd so can be altered using the laptop
