Hi All,
After a bit of advice please. The mrs lost her job over christmas she has been looking for a job since then but working in media most jobs were in London. times were getting tough so I looked for jobs in London as well so both of us could work. I have been offered a job in London and she has several interviews next week.

Now I have kept my boss up to date on most of this he knew my other half lost her job and also knew we could not afford the rent on our house any longer. I handed in my notice stating that I could not work the full 3 months but instead can only do the remaining month I have left in the house. Is there anything I can do apart from just leave as he wants me to stay a further 2 weeks after that date even though I will no place to stay because its a "inconvenience" to him other wise.

Thanks in advanced

Sorry to hear about your situation.
What does your contract say about notice period?
If it says 3 months notice required then I would say your employer is being kind in letting you only have to give 6 weeks notice. I suspect your employer may have relaxed the notice period because you gave them advance warning of your intentions, nevertheless they can try to hold you to the contractual period if they wish to.
Can you not work the extra 2 weeks and stay in a local hotel b&b, after all you will need a reference from your current employer?

Thanks for the reply my contract states 3 months. I haven't paid this months rent so I definitely can't afford 2 weeks of a hotel. I guess I would of thought that its in no ones interest to have someone sleeping in there car for 2 weeks not really fit for work, and with unrestricted access to there entire IT infrastructure. I guess I was being naive and will have to burn some bridges.

If you do that then you do open yourself up to a breach of contract issue. In reality it not be worth pursuing by your employer but be aware.
A quick search on the internet and I found b&b in Gloucestershire with vacancies for £25 per night. A week will cost £100 but you will get more than that in wages.

Put your cards on the table and just be straight with your employer. If they really need you then perhaps they would consider paying for the accomodation and deducting it from your final salary or even paying it for you.
