Best route to Lake Como
Discussion
So I can't make my mind up what the most interesting/scenic route to Lake Como would be. I don't want to do Stelvio as I have already done it and would prefer better driving roads anyway (Stelvio is amazing but very slow with all the switch backs and traffic.) does anyone have any suggestions, I'm interested in doing Black Forest and then Austria this time but am not sure what roads to drive? Looking forward to feedback.
We did the 500 through the Black Forest last year, lovely scenery and villages with good bits of road in between.
We then went on from there to Stelvio and Lake Garda, Lake Como.
On the way from Lake Como to Lake Lucerne we did the St Gotthard/Furka/Susten/Grimsel pass figure of eight. Fantastic days driving with stunning scenery.

Depends how long you have got. I'm doing this in July, via Porsche museum (Stuttgart), Salzburg, Zell am See, Grossglockner, Bolzano, Murano, Fluela pass to Zernez, then down to St Moritz, Chiavenna, to Maneggio on Como.Staying the Grand Hotel (featured recently on Top Gear).
The route from Zell am See to Zernez and St Moritz will give you a great drive, plenty of passes and empty, flowing roads. Got to watch out for cops through the Swiss section though - hidden radar etc.
Did the Stelvio last year, just because its there, but not recommended for a great drive.
Enjoy!!!

We done a similar road trip in 2010. For the Germany -> Lake Como stage we done the following; Day 1 Fussen to Chur (via Susch and Davos taking in the Fluela pass) Stayed overnight in Chur. Day 2 Chur to Lake Como - Oberalp Pass, Furka Pass\Grimsel Pass and Nufenpass down to Como. Two fantastic days driving.
